Ursinus Tailgating Policy

Ursinus College Tailgate Guidelines

Ursinus College supports and encourages responsible tailgating by spectators visiting our campus.  Those that plan to tailgate in conjunction with an athletic contest, must contact the Associate Director of Athletics, Erin Stroble, (610) 409-3761, at least 48 hours in advance. In addition, adherence to the following guidelines will ensure a positive experience.

Designated Locations for Tailgating

  • Tailgating is only permitted in the following two areas:
    • Alongside the West Parking Lot, adjacent to the Floy Lewis Bakes Field House and Thomas Baseball Field.
      • From Main Street, turn onto 9th Avenue, drive approx. ¼ mile, and look for the West Lot entrance on the right hand side. Once turning onto the entrance road, make the first left and proceed to the far end of parking lot, overlooking the baseball field. Tailgate space is the grass area along the roadway.
    • Behind Patterson Field, in the grass below the bleachers and along the hill adjacent to the gravel parking lot.  This area is traditionally used by Ursinus fans during games on Patterson field; visiting fans will be directed to the West Parking Lot tailgate area.

Parking spaces:

  • Groups choosing to tailgate may not use additional parking spaces for tailgating purposes (table set up, tent set up, etc.). All tents and tables should be set up in the grass area; not in the parking lot, along building perimeters or in any of the campus driveways, which are all fire lanes.  Vehicles may not park in more than one spot.  This will be strictly enforced and vehicles improperly parked may be towed without warning.

Size of tents:

  • Pop up tents are permitted in the tailgate areas, but may not occupy parking spots in the lots.  Tents may be no larger than 10’x10’ and free-standing, and may only be set up on the day of the event – no set up the night before.  Tents may not be staked into the ground with large stakes that may interfere with underground wires, and outside companies may not install tents on the Ursinus campus.

Clean up/disposal of trash

Before departing from campus, please clean up your tailgate area and put all trash in trash cans, located in the designated tailgating area.  Additional trash cans are located in the field house, if needed.  During your time at Ursinus, please help keep our campus beautiful.

Alcohol Consumption:

Ursinus College does NOT permit possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in any of its athletics venues.

For those who are 21 years old or over, alcoholic beverages may be consumed only in the designated tailgate areas.  Please look for signs posted in the tailgate areas which indicate the boundaries, such as “No alcoholic beverages beyond this point”.  Please obey these signs, and respect the perimeter of the designated tailgate area.  Glass bottles are prohibited at all tailgate areas.

*Ursinus College students are reminded that all policies described in the Ursinus Student Handbook remain in effect and failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.

*Ursinus College reserves the right to modify these policies for college sponsored events.

Expectation of spectator behavior at games:

Ursinus College, the Centennial Conference and the NCAA encourage and promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or ethnic comments, or other intimidating actions will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition. Consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages in the athletics venue is prohibited.

Ursinus College staff members strive to maintain safe and enjoyable events for all those in attendance. Public intoxication or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal.  We expect visitors and guests to enjoy attending events at Ursinus College while respectfully and appropriately supporting their teams.
