LANCASTER, Pa. – August 16, 2017 – Eight-time defending Conference champion Johns Hopkins is once again the preseason favorite to capture the Centennial football title in a poll of head coaches and athletic communications directors.
The Blue Jays, who won their 12th Centennial title last year with a perfect 10-0 regular season, are the unanimous selection with all 18 possible first-place votes for 162 points. Voters were not permitted to select their own team. Muhlenberg was second in the balloting with a first and 138 points, while Franklin & Marshall was slotted for the No. 3 position with 122 points. Susquehanna, who picked up the other first-place ballot, was fourth with 117 points.
Moravian (104) and Gettysburg (73) were fifth and sixth, respectively, while Ursinus (65), McDaniel (51), Juniata (44) and Dickinson (24) follow.
The Centennial preseason poll has predicted the Conference champion in 17 of the last 19 years, including nine in a row.
