War of the Roses for F&M in NCAAs
LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team earned its 23rd NCAA Division III Tournament bid when the field was announced Monday and will host the first and second rounds on March 2nd and 3rd. F&M will face cross-county rival York College on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Western Connecticut State takes on Christopher Newport in the 5:30 p.m. game in Lancaster.
The Diplomats (25-2) return to the 62-team tournament for the fourth consecutive year. F&M received an automatic bid after defeating Muhlenberg, 71-55, to win its third-straight Centennial crown. The Spartans (18-10) received the Capital Athletic Conference automatic bid after defeating Mary Washington 59-51 in the conference finals.
Christopher Newport (23-4) is making its 18th trip to the dance after earning the USA South Athletic Conference's automatic bid with an 82-72 victory over Greensboro College in the championship game. Western Connecticut (20-6) received an at-large bid after falling to Rhode Island 75-74 in the Little East Conference Tournament semi finals.
Friday's winners will meet in the second on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
