All-CC Field Hockey: Urbanski & Falterer Named Players of the Year

F&M's Dole earns top rookie honors; JHU coaching staff also secures major award

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Siena Urbanski, Liz Falterer and the Blue Jay coaching staff grabbed top awards along with Franklin & Marshall's Meghan Dole to lead the 2023 All-Centennial Field Hockey team.

Urbanski, a senior forward for the Blue Jays, was selected as Offensive Player of the Year. Urbanski ranks fifth in the conference in points (26) and goals (10), is tied for second in game-winning goals (4) and tied for fourth in assists (6). She becomes the third Hopkins forward to secure player of the year honors, joining former teammate Maddie Brown-Scherer (2021) and Beth Cariello (1993) in that category.

Falterer was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the second Blue Jay to be named the CC's top defender. Former JHU standout Grace Hillman won the award in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018.

The Hopkins coaching staff of head coach Jane Wells and assistant coaches James Albanese, Merritt Davis and Britt Walker McNeil were voted Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers. Hopkins completed its fourth consecutive unbeaten CC regular season and fifth straight conference title this fall, boasting an 18-1 overall record entering the NCAA Tournament.

F&M goalkeeper Meghan Dole was named Rookie of the Year. Dole was stellar in goal for the Diplomats this year, leading the Centennial in saves per game (5.28) and total saves (95), ranking second in shutouts (6) and save percentage (.812), and third in goals against average (1.236). Dole also colleced All-Centennial first team laurels. Dole is the second straight and fourth overall F&M player to win Rookie of the Year.

Eleven players secured All-Centennial honors for at least the second time in their career, including one now four-time honoree. F&M midfielder Darby Klopp was named to the first team for the first time after receiving second team All-Centennial accolades in both 2021 and 2022 and honorable mention in 2019.

F&M midfielder/defender Carolina Riley, the 2022 CC Defensive Player of the Year, and Bryn Mawr midfielder Eva Yacura were repeat first-team selections. JHU's Urbanski was a second teamer in 2022, while teammate and midfielder Mikayla Schoff repeated on the second team along with Bryn Mawr midfielder Reba Ervin and Dickinson forward Abby Marthins. Dickinson midfielder Morgan Yandow-Harding and F&M defender Kat Thistlewaite, the 2022 Rookie of the Year, earned second team nods following honorable mention awards in 2022.

Rounding out the repeat all-stars were McDaniel midfielder Reagan Cushman and Washington College defender Kate Gromacki, who both made their way back onto the All-Centennial honorable mention team after also receiving that honor following the 2021 campaign.

Johns Hopkins has 51 first-team All-Centennial selections in the 31-year history of the conference. Ursinus is next with 49, followed by Gettysburg (48), Franklin & Marshall (47), Washington College (34), Swarthmore (24), Dickinson (20), Muhlenberg (19), McDaniel (17), Haverford (16) and Bryn Mawr (11).
