All-CC Men's Soccer: Horwitz & Comber Named Players of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's Oscar Horwitz and Washington College's Chris Comber were named Players of the Year while Muhlenberg's Sam Roberts and the Washington College coaching staff also garnered major awards on the 2023 All-Centennial Men's Soccer Team.

Horwitz, a senior forward for the Diplomats, was selected as Offensive Player of the Year. Horwitz is the runaway leader in the CC in points (40) and goals (19), with the next-closest totals in the conference being 27 and 12, respectively. Horwitz is the fourth Diplomat forward to win the conference's top honor. He was named to the All-CC first team for the second year in a row.

Comber, a senior defender for the Shoremen, was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year. Also a back-to-back first team pick, Comber is the first Washington College player in CC history to collect a Player of the Year award. Comber and the Shoremen defense rank atop the conference with just 13 goals allowed on the year through 18 games.

Roberts, a freshman defender for the CC-runner up Mules, was named Rookie of the Year. Roberts helped lead a Muhlenberg defense that ranks second in the conference with just 14 goals against in 19 games played. He is the second Mule to win top rookie honors, joining teammate Chris Richards, who won the award in 2019.

Washington College's coaching staff was selected by its peers as Coaching Staff of the Year. Head coach Roy Dunshee and assistants Ryan Shera, Jeff Reinoehl, Tom Bowman, James Strine and James Bedrock led the Shoremen to an 11-1-5 regular season record that included a 7-1-1 CC mark and the top seed in the conference tournament.

Eighteen players were repeat All-Centennial performers, including one four-time all-star and a trio of three-time honorees. Muhlenberg midfielder Chris Richards, the 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, becomes a four-time All-CC pick including three career spots on the first team. JHU's Ian Whamond, Washington College midfielder Harrison Malone and F&M defender Conner Anderko each collected all-conference honors for the the third time in their careers.

Johns Hopkins has the most first-team selections (74) in the 31-year history of the Conference, followed by Gettysburg (55), Franklin & Marshall (50) and Muhlenberg (49). Dickinson (33) is next followed by Haverford (30), Swarthmore (16), McDaniel (12), Washington College (11) and Ursinus (5).
