All-CC Women's Soccer: Sullivan & Crowley Earn Top Awards

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Katie Sullivan, McDaniel's Kiersten Crowley, Swarthmore's Ava Gizzie and the McDaniel coaching staff received top honors to lead the 2023 All-Centennial Conference Women's Soccer Team. 

Sullivan, a junior forward for JHU, was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year. Sullivan leads the CC in points (33) and goals (14) and ranks tied for sixth in assists (5). Sullivan's honor marks the ninth time in conference history that a Blue Jays has garnered Player of the Year accolades. The JHU junior was also named to the first team for the third year in a row, becoming the 29th player in CC history to collect first team honors at least three times. 

Crowley, a graduate student for the Green Terror, was named Defensive Player of the Year. Crowley is the second straight McDaniel defender to claim the award, joining former teammate Jules Dotterweich as top defensive award winners. It marks the fifth time in CC history that a Green Terror player has secured Player of the Year recognition. Crowley and the McDaniel defense rank atop the conference this season with only six goals allowed on the year. 

Gizzie made an immediate impact at the collegiate level for Swarthmore en route to Rookie of the Year honors. A first-year forward, Gizzie ranks second in the CC in points (25) and goals (10) entering the NCAA Tournament. Gizzie becomes the third Garnet to win the conference's top rookie award, joining Hannah Lichtenstein (2014) and Marin McCoy (2015). 

The McDaniel coaching staff of head coach Sandy Lagana Bly and assistants Michael Scott, Maddie Schwartz and Brian Boussy were selected by their peers as Coaching Staff of the Year. McDaniel went 6-1-3 in CC play and posted a 10-3-5 regular season mark to earn the No. 3 seed in the CC tournament. 

Johns Hopkins and Franklin & Marshall led the way with six All-Centennial performers apiece, while Gettysburg, McDaniel and Swarthmore each earned five spots on the all-star team. 

Led by Sullivan, a total of 10 players on the All-Centennial team were repeat picks. McDaniel midfielder Jessica Weinoldt repeated as a first-team selection and became a three-time honoree after also securing second team honors in 2021. Dickinson midfielder Emma Cooney was named to the second team for the third year in a row, while Swarthmore midfielder Allie Zitelli landed on the first team for the first time after receiving honorable mention honors in both 2021 and 2022. 

Swarthmore midfielder Veroncia Gibbons became a two-time first team honoree while JHU defender Annie Isphording, the 2022 Rookie of the Year, secured first team accolades after landing on the second team last fall. F&M defender Mikaela Timmermans and forward Alison Francis, Swarthmore defender Emme Hansard, and Haverford defender Lauren Anderson also became two-time all-stars. 

Johns Hopkins has 75 all-time first-team selections - the highest total in the conference. Gettysburg (52) is second, while Swarthmore is third (39) followed by Muhlenberg (34), Dickinson (32), McDaniel (32), Haverford (26), Franklin & Marshall (24), Ursinus (6) and Bryn Mawr (4).
