Blue Jays Tabbed CC Volleyball Favorite

Six-time defending champions receive all 10 possible first-place votes

LANCASTER, Pa. – Six-time defending champion Johns Hopkins was selected as the favorite in the 2023 Centennial Volleyball preseason poll in a vote among conference head coaches. The Blue Jays received all 10 possible first-place votes and totaled 100 points to earn top billing in the poll. 

Franklin & Marshall, the 2022 CC runner-up, collected the other first-place vote and tallied 89 points to finish second in the preseason poll. Swarthmore was picked third with 84 points, while Gettysburg (72), Haverford (61) and Dickinson (57) were also projected as playoff teams. 

Rounding out the poll were Muhlenberg (43), Ursinus (36), Washington College (34), McDaniel (19) and Bryn Mawr (10) in seventh through 11th place, respectively. 

The 2023 campaign is set to open up on Friday, Sept. 1. Conference play will commence in late September, with the six-team Centennial tournament slated for Nov. 8-10-12 with the higher seeds hosting each tournament round.

Johns Hopkins continued its winning ways on both conference and national levels last spring, winning its sixth consecutive Centennial title before advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight by capturing the second regional title in program history. The Blue Jays enter the 2023 season carrying a 30-match winning streak in CC play dating back to Oct. 27, 2018. 

JHU is ranked ninth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches' Top-25 Preseason Poll, while Swarthmore is one of 29 teams receiving votes. 

A deep pool of experienced and talented players return to the court this fall throughout the conference with five All-Americans, seven All-Region and 16 All-Centennial performers back in the fold. Reigning CC Player of the Year and 2022 AVCA All-American Kaylee Zhang of Swarthmore headlines the list of returners. Other returning All-American's include Haverford's Taylor Jones and Juliet Young, F&M's Gianna Mangiamele and JHU's Simone Adam

Zhang, Jones and Muhlenberg's Alyssa Faville have each earned multiple All-Centennial honors in their careers entering the 2023 season.
