LANCASTER, Pa. -- Ursinus' Tony Holden and Johns Hopkins' Matthew Konkol were named Players of the Year while JHU's Brad Paxton and the Ursinus coaching staff also garnered major awards to lead the 2024 All-Centennial Conference Football Team.
Holden, a senior running back for the Bears, was selected as Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Centennial with 1,257 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns this fall. Through 10 regular season games, Holden has averaged 6.5 yards per carry, which ranks ninth in CC single-season history. He has rushed for over 100 yards in eight of the Bears 10 contests so far this year, including a season-high of 226 yards against Rowan on September 21. Holden is the 11th running back in conference history to garner player of the year recognition and first since 2013. He is the second Ursinus running back to receive the honor, joining Bill Sedgwick (1993).
Konkol, a senior defense lineman for the Blue Jays, was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Konkol has helped spearhead a Blue Jay defense that has held opponents to just 11.3 points per game this year, which is tied for ninth best in Division III. Konkol ranks fifth in the CC in both sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (10.0) while also contributing 38 tackles, four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Konkol is the 10th different JHU player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Paxton, a freshman kicker for Hopkins, was named Rookie of the Year. He is the fourth straight and fifth overall Blue Jays to receive the Centennial's award for top newcomer. Paxton connected on 78.6% of his field goal attempts (11-for-14), which leads the conference, with a long of 34 yards. He also boasts a 23-for-26 mark on extra point attempts.
The Ursinus coaching staff was selected by its peers as Coaching Staff of the Year. Head coach Peter Gallagher and assistant coaches Rob Quigley, Steve Devlin, Jeff Endy, Kyle Adkins, Chris Lampart, Mitch Bradford, Dave Lotier, Aaron Brady, Ryan Bodolus and Brett Gross have guided the Bears to a 9-1 overall mark, a 5-1 mark in CC play and their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999.
Thirty players grabbed All-Centennial accolades for at least the second time in their careers, including nine three-time honorees and two four-time honorees. Ursinus senior defensive back Ryan DiVergilis earned first team recognition for the third year in a row after also securing an honorable mention spot as a freshman in 2021. Muhlenberg senior defensive lineman Keshon Davila landed on the honorable mention team to become a four-time all-star, having previously earned first team laurels in 2023 and second team honors in 2022 and 2021.
Johns Hopkins has the most first-team All-CC selections in conference history with 210, followed by Muhlenberg with 185. Franklin & Marshall is third with 152, followed by Dickinson (127), Ursinus (109), McDaniel (90) and Gettysburg (79).
