All-CC Men's Basketball: Stafford Named Player of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Gettysburg's Jordan Stafford, Johns Hopkins' Sidney Thybulle and Brayden Fagbemi and the Franklin & Marshall coaching staff received major awards to lead the 2024 All-Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Team.

Stafford, a junior guard for the Bullets, was selected as the Player of the Year, becoming just the second Gettysburg player to receive the conference's top honor in the 30-year history of the award. Andrew Powers won the award for the Bullets as a sophomore in 2009. Now a two-time All-CC selection after earning second team honors last year, Stafford averaged 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 blocks, and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 53.1% from the field and 46% from three-point range as one of the most well-rounded and top defensive players in the conference.

Thybulle, a graduate student forward for Hopkins, was selected as Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight season. He is the only player to win multiple DPOY honors since the award was formed in 2018. Thybulle ranked second in the CC in both blocks per game (2.0) and steals per game (1.4) while defending the opposition's top post player. He also chipped in with 5.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, ranking fourth in the CC in rebounding.

Fagbemi, a freshman point guard for JHU, wasted no time cementing himself as one of the top guards in the conference en route to Rookie of the Year accolades. He is the second Blue Jay to win the top newcomer honor, joining former standout Conner Delaney in that category. Delaney secured the honor back in 2018. Fagbemi contributed in a variety of ways, averaging 13.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.7 three-pointers and 1.3 steals per contest.

The Franklin & Marshall coaching staff was selected by its peers at the Coaching Staff of the Year. F&M head coach Nick Nichay and assistants Matt Walsh, AJ Bajana and Nick Monroe guided the Diplomats to a 20-7 overall record, a 14-4 mark in CC play and a trip to the semifinals. The 20 wins were the most for F&M since the 2017-18 season and the most for Nichay and his staff in his five years as head coach.

Swarthmore's Vinny DeAngelo, the 2022-23 CC Player of the Year, was named to the first team for the third time in his career. DeAngelo is now one of just 10 players in CC history to have received first team accolades at least three times in a career, and the first since Swarthmore's Cam Wiley in 2017-18-19. The Garnet senior guard is a four-time All-CC pick, having earned honorable mention laurels as a freshman during the 2019-20 season.

Franklin & Marshall (31) has the most first-team selections in the history of the conference, followed by Ursinus (23), Johns Hopkins (21), Muhlenberg (18), Gettysburg (17), Swarthmore (13), Dickinson (11), Washington College (7), Haverford (6), and McDaniel (5).
