Athletes of the Week: Feb. 19-25

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Weekly awards continue for lacrosse and tennis while the first baseball honors of 2024 have been distributed for the week of Feb. 19-25.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Shea Mckenna, Fr., INF, McDaniel 
West Deptford, N.J. | West Deptford
McKenna had an outstanding start to his collegiate career, hitting .700 in three games, going 7-for-10 with a 1.300 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage for a 2.033 OPS as McDaniel went 2-1 last week. He led the team in hits and totaled three doubles, one home run and a team-high eight RBIs. McKenna had a hit in all three games, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in his collegiate debut, a 20-5 win over Keene State, before going 3-for-4 with a double and three-run home run and four RBIs against Montclair State.

Pitcher of the Week
Mike Rabayda, Sr., RHP, Haverford 
Richboro, Pa. | Council Rock South 
After missing the 2023 season due to injury, Rabayda returned in full force for the Fords on Saturday against Gwynedd Mercy. The senior threw five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win in the 6-2 victory over the Griffins. The Council Rock South product only gave up one walk and two hits in the outing, with both hits surrendered being infield singles.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Von Mabbs, Sr., A, Swarthmore 
Concord, Mass. | St. Mark's 
Mabbs led the 16th-ranked Garnet with 11 points on six goals and five assists in a 2-0 week. He opened the week with three goals and two helpers in a 16-12 win at Eastern. Mabbs then put up six points in a 21-11 victory versus Vassar, notching three goals and three assists as well as picking up four ground balls. He currently leads the conference in points (16) and assists (9).

Defensive Player of the Week
Brighton Lorber, Gr., GK, McDaniel 
Lutherville, Md. | Loyola Blakefield 
Lorber totaled 23 saves in two games last week as McDaniel started the season with back-to-back wins. He boasted a 2-0 record in two starts, a 6.75 goals-against average and a .639 save percentage, allowing just 13 goals on 57 shots faced in 115:29 minutes. He made 12 saves in a 9-6 win at Marymount (Va.) before adding 11 in a 14-7 win at Goucher, including seven in the first half as the Green Terror built a 9-1 lead.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Caroline Sullivan, Sr., M, Gettysburg
Fairfield, Conn. | Fairfield Ludlowe 
Sullivan led the Bullets to a pair of victories over ranked opponents, contributing 10 goals, and three assists for 13 points. She also nabbed six ground balls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. She netted four goals and added two assists in an 18-3 win over No. 15 Messiah before scoring a career-high six goals to go with one assist in a 17-10 win over No. 25 Denison.

Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Pittman, So., A, Franklin & Marshall 
Sanford, Fla. | Lake Highland Prep 
Pittman had a huge presence on both offense and defense as the Diplomats rolled to a 21-5 victory against Catholic during the team's home opener on Saturday. Pittman led the team with five ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls. She also scored four goals and registered two assists.

MEN'S TENNIS

Athlete of the Week
Max Lindstrom, So., Swarthmore  
Satellite Beach, Fla. | Satellite 
Lindstrom picked up a pair of victories to help the 13th-ranked Garnet defeat New York University, 8-1. He took down the 48th-ranked player in Division III in straight sets at second singles, 6-1, 6-4. Lindstrom also teamed up with Rushil Patel for an 8-4 victory at third doubles.

WOMEN'S TENNIS 

Athlete of the Week
Oviya Kumaran, Sr., Swarthmore 
Sam Ramon, Calif. | California 
Kumuran went 4-0 on the week against nationally-ranked No. 33 Vassar and No. 27 Mary Washington in a pair of Swarthmore wins. The senior paired with Spencer Watts in No. 3 doubles for a 8-2 win over Vassar and a 8-6 decision against Mary Washington. She was also victorious in both her No. 5 singles matches. Kumuran won 7-6, 6-4 over Vassar and 6-2, 6-4 against Mary Washington.
