JHU's Brotherton Repeats as Runner of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins claimed both athlete major awards while Swarthmore garnered top coaching honors to highlight the 2026 All-Centennial Women's Cross Country Team. Carter Brotherton was named Runner of the Year for the second straight season, Alexia Tubbs captured Rookie of the Year honors, and the Swarthmore coaching staff was selected by its peers as Coaching Staff of the Year.

Brotherton won the CC individual crown for the second year in a row to become the eighth runner in conference history to win multiple individual titles. The junior, who also garnered first team and Rookie of the Year accolades as a freshman in 2024, is the 27th runner in conference history to earn first team All-Centennial honors at least three times and the first runner in conference history to win multiple titles and the Rookie of the Year award in a career. Brotherton's regular season results were equally as impressive, winning the Aubrey Shank Invitational in a field of 452 runners and taking fifth at the D3 Pre-National Invitational among 324 competitors and some of the top teams in the national. Brotherton now joins former Blue Jay standout Ellie Clawson (2017-18) as JHU runners to win multiple CC championships.

Tubbs was honored as Rookie of the Year after securing a runner-up finish at the CC championship. Tubbs also finished in fifth place at the Aubrey Shank Invitational at Gettysburg in a field of 452 runners on October 17. Tubbs is the 13th Hopkins runner to win Rookie of the Year and the 28th first-year runner to earn All-CC first team laurels with a top-seven finish at the championship meet.

The Swarthmore coaching staff of head coach Peter Carroll, associate head coach Lauren Lucci and assistant coach John Noon were honored by their peers as Coaching Staff of the Year. This marks the first top coaching honor for Swarthmore in the 18-year history of the award. The Garnet finished as the runners-up at the CC championship with 53 points. The second-place finish was the second in program history for Swarthmore, with the other occurring in 1997.

Brotherton was the lone three-time honoree on this year's All-Centennial squad, whilie five others collected all-conference laurels for the second time. Brotherton and Tubbs were joined on the first team by teammates Sydney Shock and Diana Valentini, Franklin & Marshall's Tara Silverman, and Swarthmore's Elizabeth Page and Aaliyah Anaskevich. Shock and Page reclaim All-CC honors after earning first team and second team awards, respectively, back in 2024. Silverman was a second-teamer last fall.

JHU's Natalie Boquist was the other repeat All-CC runner, securing second team honors after a first-team finish in 2025. Other second-teamers capturing all-conference awards for the first time with top-14 placings at the championship included Swarthmore's Charlotte Martin, JHU's Ani Wedemeyer, Abby Artabane and Kira Dye, F&M's Maren Blanks and Haverford's Alice Sappenfield.
