CC Trio Bow Out in NCAA Round One

Gettysburg, Hopkins & F&M come up short in postseason openers

NCAA postseason runs for the three Centennial Conference men's basketball qualifiers were short-lived as Gettysburg, Franklin & Marshall and Johns Hopkins each fell in the opening round of the 2026 Division III NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday. 

Gettysburg lost to New York University 65-53, F&M fell to Cortland State 75-66 and Hopkins lost on a late three-pointer by TCNJ, 74-73. 

In Middletown, Conn., NYU (18-8) used a 14-0 run in the first half to open up a 20-7 lead midway through the stanza and kept Gettysburg at arm's length the rest of the way, notching a 65-53 win in the opening round of the NCAA Div. III men's basketball championship tournament at Wesleyan. Aidan Mess led the Bullets with seven points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Alex Grospe recorded 11 points, four assists and two steals. The CC-champion Bullets conclude the year withh an 18-10 record. 

In Beverly, Mass., F&M (22-6) was unable erase an 11-point halftime deficit, falling to No. 23 Cortland (23-4), 75-66, in the NCAA Tournament First Round. The Diplomats end the year with their third-straight 20-plus win season. This marked the program's 27th time playing in the NCAA Tournament, and it is the first time the team has earned back-to-back tournament bids since the team's four-peat from 2009 through 2012. Kevin Nowoswiat was among four Diplomats with double-figures, as he led the team with 20 points and six rebounds. Vakaris Grauslys posted 14 points with two triples and lead the team with four assists and three steals. Franklin Jones set a new career high of 13 points with five rebounds.

In Ashland, Va., Nick Koch drained a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds to play to lift 22nd-ranked ranked TCNJ to a 74-73 win over Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays end the season at 20-8 while the Lions improve to 22-6. Hopkins led 69-61 with 4:55 to play, but a David Alexandre three-point play kick-started a game-ending run 13-4 Lions' run, punctuated by that Koch three-pointer to put TCNJ up 74-73. 

Wyatt Eglinton Manner finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead JHU with his third 20-point double-double of the season. Tanti Felli scored 16 points, grabbed five boards and handed out a pair of assists.
