LANCASTER, Pa. -- Gettysburg's Giovanna Komst and Paige Forry swept the Player and Pitcher of the Year awards while Swarthmore's Alexandra Simon, Dickinson's Jane Lloyd and the Ursinus coaching staff also garnered major awards on the 2023 All-Centennial Softball Team. A total of 32 athletes received All-CC accolades.
This marks the third consecutive year and the fifth time in Centennial history that both the Player and Pitcher of the Year are from the same team.
Komst, a junior outfielder for the Bullets, is the sixth Bullet to be named Player of the Year and first since Jamie Abell in 2016. Komst led the CC in batting average (.481), on-base percentage (.545) and ranked sixth in hits (50) while also contributing 20 RBIs, 25 runs scored, and 15 walks.
Forry, a sophomore lefthander for Gettysburg, becomes the second Bullet to receive Pitcher of the Year honors, joining former two-time winner Aileen Reilly (2017-18) in that club. Forry tied for the CC lead with 14 wins (14-6 record), led the CC in total strikeouts (119), and ranked second with a 1.85 ERA through 23 appearances and 19 starts. Forry also pitched the third-most innings in the conference (121.1).
Simon, a junior shortstop for the CC-champion Garnet, was named Gold Glove of the Year as the top defensive player in the conference and a first team All-Centennial pick for the second straight season. Simon has recorded a stellar .928 fielding percentage from the shortstop position through the CC regular season and postseason.
The Ursinus coaching staff was selected as Coaching Staff of the Year. Head coach Taylor Gardner and assistants Kelly Lovato, Amy Gentile, Melissa Tighe and Kailey Martin guided the Bears to a 29-14 overall record, a 12-3 mark in CC play, the top seed in the Centennial tournament and a trip to the championship game.
A trio of players received all-conference honors for the third time in their careers - Gettysburg's Komst and Olivia Moser and Washington College's Alyssa Vieira. Two-time All-CC performers include Washington College's Lexie Witmer, Hannah Solge, and Lexi Barnhart, Swarthmore's Simon, Kate Hart, and Olivia McClammy, McDaniel's Evie Craig and Makayla Calamita, Dickinson's Riley Kuehn, and Gettysburg's Allegra DeCandia.
McDaniel leads all teams with 64 All-Centennial first-team selections, followed by Ursinus (58), Gettysburg (58), Muhlenberg (41), Washington College (34), Dickinson (29), Haverford (27), Franklin & Marshall (23) and Swarthmore (15).
