LANCASTER, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins' Victoria Kadiri and Lauren Phillips repeated as athletes of the year while Franklin & Marshall's Laura Dunnigan and the JHU coaching staff were also selected for major awards to highlight the 2024 All-Centennial Women's Indoor Track & Field Team.
The major awards are voted on by the conference head coaches, while first team, second team and honorable mention honors are awarded based on placings at the Centennial championship meet. Every gold medal individual and relay team earns first team honors, every silver medal individual and relay team earns second team honors, and every bronze medal individual is named to the honorable mention squad.
Kadiri, who became the first athlete in Centennial history to win both Track Athlete of the Meet and Field Athlete of the Meet in the same year last weekend, was named Field Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. The Blue Jay senior and two-time defending national champion in the long jump and defending national champion in the triple jump has added even more accolades to her career achievements this season. During the regular season, Kadiri broke the CC pentathlon record with 3,610 points on Jan. 26. At the CC championship, the senior standout 60-meter dash (championship record), 60 hurdles, triple jump (championship record), and long jump, placed second in the high jump and third in the shot put. She currently holds the top triple jump mark in the nation and the third-best long jump.
Phillips has now captured Rookie of the Year and two Track Athlete of the Year awards in her three years of indoor at JHU. She set a new 300-meter mark of 41.15 seconds on Dec. 2, which now gives her four individual conference records throughout her career. The junior won the 200 meters at the CC championship and ranks eighth in the nation in the 400. Phillips has the top times in the CC in the 200 and 400 and ranks second in the 60, behind only Kadiri.
F&M's Dunnigan was tabbed as Rookie of the Year following an impressive freshman indoor campaign. Dunnigan collected a silver medals at the CC championship in the 60 hurdles, took fifth in the 60-meter dash and was part of the fourth-place 4x200 relay. Dunnigan's top time in the 60 hurdles this season ranks 46th on the national list.
The Johns Hopkins coaching staff was chosen as Coaching Staff of the Year. JHU head coach Bobby Van Allen and assistants Shedrick Elliott III, Alex Jebb, Jefferson Butler, Jesse Wells, Kevin Sommer and Matt Fischetti guided the Blue Jays to their 13th consecutive CC crown. This marks the sixth straight women's indoor coaching honor for Van Allen and the Blue Jays.
