Washington College secured the top seed and right to host championship weekend of the Centennial Conference softball tournament following a wild final day of the regular season on Saturday. The Shorewomen finished in a three-way tie for first place with Swarthmore and Gettysburg, each with 11-5 CC marks, and earned the top seed via a tiebreaker.
The Shorewomen entered the day with a one-game lead over both Gettysburg and Swarthmore. The Bullets and Garnet both swept their doubleheaders, while the Shorewomen split to lock up the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2016.
Seven of the nine CC squads entered Saturday with a chance at a postseason bid, setting up a dramatic race to the finish. Muhlenberg held off McDaniel 14-13 in an epic 13-inning game and later swept the twinbill to lock up the No. 4 seed. The Mules (23-4, 9-7 CC) will host No. 5 Dickinson (11-20, 8-8 CC) in Tuesday's single-elimination game. The winner of that contest will advance to the double elimination tournament, beginning with a matchup at top-seeded Washington College (20-17-1, 11-5 CC) on Thursday.
Thursday's other matchup will pit third-seeded Gettysburg (25-11, 11-5 CC) at second-seeded Swarthmore (23-9, 11-5 CC).
The tournament will then move to the championship weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Washington College in Chestertown, Md.
