AUSTIN, TX – Johns Hopkins graduate student
Hanyu Liu has been named a Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) it was announced today. This is Liu's first career Academic All-America honor.
Johns Hopkins has now produced eight CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans since 2003. Six of the eight selections have come in the last five seasons.
Liu is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Geography and Environmental Health and Engineering. He earned his Master of Health Science in Environmental Health and Engineering from Johns Hopkins in May 2023. He graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics in May 2022.
Liu was tied for the team lead in singles wins with 19 as he finished the season with a 19-5 record. He was also tied for third on the team in doubles wins with a 13-5 record. Liu ended his career with a 55-37 mark in singles and 52-34 in doubles. In his time with the Blue Jays, he went 36-11 in singles and 25-13 in doubles. Liu's 36 singles wins are tied for 25
th in Johns Hopkins' history. He earned All-Centennial Conference honors in singles in each of his two seasons at JHU.
Liu has worked as a research assistant at the Greenhouse Gas Research Group at JHU for the last two years. In the summer of 2022, he was a research assistant for Dr. Yan Wang at the University of Florida. He also worked as a research assistant for Dr. Young Hoon Kwak at George Washington and for Dr. Kaifeng Xu at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital. At Johns Hopkins, Liu spearheaded a critical initiative on Baltimore's Climate Action Plan, guiding project development and execution. While at GWU, he was Vice President of the International Student Association and was a mathematics tutor in the District of Columbia Public School system.
