Hopkins, Wanlass Win Mid-Atlantic Regional Crowns

The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team captured its third regional title while JHU junior Kenny Wanlass won the individual title to lead Centennial Conference performances at NCAA regional championships on Saturday. Hopkins becomes the 24th regional team champion in conference history while Wanlass is the 19th individual to claim top honors at a regional meet. 

A total of 23 CC runners earned all-region honors with top-35 finishes at the two regional meets. Hopkins secured the top team finish with its Mid-Atlantic crown, while Swarthmore placed second at the Metro Regional and Dickinson and Haverford placed fourth at the Mid-Atlantic and Metro Regionals, respectively. 


LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Haverford's Micah Lachman and Simon Lane finished in second and third place, respectively, to lead a contingent of 12 Centennial runners that collected all-region honors at the Metro Regional Championships on Saturday at the Gloucester County DREAM Park. 

Swarthmore finished second in the team standings with 76 points, behind only champion TCNJ (56). Haverford took fourth place with 84 points while Ursinus finished in 11th (306) and Muhlenberg took 19th with 562 points in a field of 26 teams. 

Lachman paced all CC competitors on the 8k course with a time of 24:37.6, finishing behind just Brandon Chen of TCNJ (24:25.3). Lane made it back-to-back Ford finishes in third place at 24:43.2. Swarthmore's Cohen Manges also recorded a top-five placing in fifth at 24:44.8 while Swarthmore's Matthew Fleming (13th; 25:12.3), Jasper Mosley (14th; 25:13.8) and Charlie Schuetz (19th; 25:22.6) also registered top-20 placings. 

Ursinus' Liam Johnston (21st; 25:36.3), Haverford's Owen Bluman (22nd; 25:36.6), Swarthmore's Luka Opacic-Rodrigues (25th; 25:47.5), Haverford's Jakob Maiwald (27th; 25:50.0), Swarthmore's Joey Alandar (29th; 25:50.8) and Haverford's Torin Pelton-Flavin (30th; 25:50.9) also grabbed all-region laurels with top-35 placings. 

Manges became a three-time all-region performer while Johnston, Maiwald and Lachman received all-region honors for the second time. 


NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins won the team title and Kenny Wanlass captured the individual crown to headline a group of 11 individuals that posted all-region finishes on Saturday at Big Spring High School. 

Wanlass crossed first in a field of 218 competitors with a time of 25:16.80, becoming the 19th individual regional champion in CC history. Hopkins secured seven of the top nine placings to run away with the team title with a score of 23, defeating second-place Carnegie Mellon (64) by 41 points. Dickinson placed fourth with 154 points, Gettysburg finished 13th withh 382 points, F&M was 16th (447) and McDaniel was 21st (663) among the 31 teams. 

Other top-nine placewinners for the team-champion Blue Jays were Brady Ott (4th; 25:22.93), Cedar Nichols-Barnett (5th; 25:25.66), Connor Oiler (6th; 25:25.82), Rowan Cassidy (7th; 25:25.85, Nash Minor (8th; 25:28.22) and Caleb Tenney (9th; 25:30.37). 

Dickinson's Nathan Caldwell (25:38.10) and Luke Knestout (25:39.83) finished back-to-back in 11th and 12th place, respectively, while teammate Alexander Kane was the next CC finisher in 22nd at 25:58.26. McDaniel's Jack Sears took 30th place at 26:10.73 to round out the all-region performers from the Centennial. 

Kane captured his fourth all-region award, Oiler and Cassidy became three-time all-region honorees, and Wanlass and Knestout secured all-region nods for the second time.
