Sixth-ranked Gettysburg rolled past ninth-ranked Washington and Lee while fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall was edged by 20th-ranked Denision 16-15 in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. The win propels the Bullets to the NCAA quarterfinals vs. Denison on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Gettysburg scored five straight goals in the first and second quarters to turn an early 2-1 deficit to Washington and Lee into 6-2 lead early in the second quarter to notch an 18-10 victory in the third round of the 2025 NCAA Div. III women's lacrosse championship tournament at Franklin & Marshall.
Julia Daly led the Bullets with seven points on four goals and three assists to go with a ground ball and caused turnover. Michaela Kelly added three goals and three assists as part of a day that saw six players register three or more points.
Gettysburg returns to action against No. 20 Denison, which upended host and No. 5 Franklin & Marshall 16-15 in the day's first game. The Bullets and Big Red, who faced off in Gettysburg on Feb. 22 – a 16-6 win by the hosts, will play at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in Lancaster with a trip to the national semifinals in Salem, Va., on the line.
In the opening game of the day at Shadek Stadium in Lancaster, F&M fell in a back-and-forth 16-15 final against Denison. The Diplomats (18-3) were up 10-5 with just over nine minutes to play in the second quarter. However, a resilient Big Red (16-4) squad scored the next seven goals to take the lead for the first time all afternoon.
Lane Lambeth's fourth quarter goals gave her a game-high six during the postseason game. Both Lydia Cassilly and Lauren Pittman added hat tricks with three goals each. The Diplomats finished the game with advantages in shots (36-28), shots on goal (29-23), ground balls (21-14), and draw controls (19-16), but six free-position goals and 14 saves from Denison goalie Julianne Henigan helped swing the final decision in the Big Red's favor.
