BALTIMORE, MD – The top-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team claimed a 7-4 victory over Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Game 1 of the 2025 NCAA Super Regional on Friday afternoon at Babb Field, powered by a two-run go-ahead double from Jacob Harris in the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Kieren Collins delivered a season-high 9.0 innings, earning the complete-game win. He allowed all four of CWRU's runs in the fourth inning, but bounced back with eight shutout frames, limiting the Spartans to four runs on eight hits, with one walk and five strikeouts. Collins improved to 9-1 on the season with the performance.

Hopkins (43-3) jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to Caleb Cyr's three-run blast off the video board—the program's 100th home run of the season.

Collins cruised through the first three innings, retiring the minimum. However, the Spartans (30-13-1) rallied in the fourth, stringing together five consecutive hits to take a 4-3 lead. Collins got out of the inning with a double play, limiting the damage.

The Blue Jays quickly answered in the bottom of the fourth, as Alex Shane's bloop single scored Jake Siani to tie the game at 4-4.

With the score deadlocked, Collins retired 10 straight batters, allowing Hopkins to regain control in the seventh. With two on and two outs, Jacob Harris doubled to left, bringing in both runs and giving the Blue Jays a 6-4 advantage. Dylan Whitney tacked on an insurance run with a solo homer in the eighth.

Collins retired the final batter after allowing runners to reach second and third with two outs, with a crucial defensive play from Shane, who made a potential game-saving catch, robbing CWRU's Franco Alonso of a two-run home run.

Johns Hopkins will look to clinch the program's third Super Regional title tomorrow, Saturday, May 24, in Game 2 against CWRU at Babb Field.
