BALTIMORE, MD – The top-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team clinched its third NCAA Super Regional title on Saturday afternoon at Babb Field, defeating Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) 12-7 in Game 2 of the best-of-three series. With the victory, the Blue Jays (44-3) punched their ticket to the Division III Baseball Championship for the seventh time in program history.

The Hopkins offense came out firing, overwhelming CWRU starter Tyler Stillson with a five-run first inning. Designated as the visiting team, the Blue Jays quickly loaded the bases before Dillon Souvignier delivered a two-run single through the left side. Moments later, second baseman Jimmy Stevens extended the lead to 5-0 with a three-run homer.

The Spartans (30-14-1) answered with a solo home run from Dane Camphausen in the bottom of the first, cutting the deficit to 5-1. But the Blue Jays continued to apply pressure. In the top of the second, Alex Shane launched a two-run home run to push the lead to 7-1.

CWRU kept battling, plating two runs in the bottom of the second to make it 7-3. Hopkins then turned to reliever Ryan Anderson, who steadied the game with 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his fifth win of the season. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays offense added three more runs — two in the third and one in the fourth — to stretch the lead to 10-3. Highlights included an RBI single from Lukas Geer and a textbook squeeze bunt by Jake Siani that scored Stevens. Shawn Steuerer capped the surge with his 17th home run of the season.

True to form, the Spartans refused to go quietly. Camphausen struck again with his second solo homer of the game, then added a two-RBI double in the sixth. Nick Harms followed with an RBI single, trimming the Hopkins lead to 10-7.

Closer Grant Meert entered with one out in the eighth and a 3-2 count already on the batter. One pitch later, he had a strikeout. He fanned the next batter as well, setting the tone for a dominant close.

To give Meert a cushion, Jacob Harris and Dylan Whitney each delivered RBI singles in the top of the ninth, extending the lead to 12-7. Meert then finished the job in the bottom half, sealing the win and earning his sixth save of the season.

With the victory, Johns Hopkins advances to the Division III Baseball Championship, set for Friday, May 30 through Thursday, June 5 at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio.
