Bullets Lead Women's Basketball Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. – Five-time defending champion Gettysburg has been selected as the favorite to hoist the trophy once again in the Centennial Conference women's basketball preseason poll. The Bullets received seven first-place votes and tallied 97 points to secure the distinction of preseason favorite in a vote among CC head coaches.

Johns Hopkins, which has finished as the conference runner-up each of the past five seasons, collected the remaining four first-place nods and totaled 94 points to finish second in the poll. Ursinus and McDaniel tied for third place with 75 points apiece, while Dickinson (67) and Swarthmore (50) were also projected as playoff teams in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Gettysburg collected one for the thumb last season, winning its fifth consecutive Centennial Conference title. The Bullets' five-year winning streak is the longest in CC history, with the next-closest being Muhlenberg's three-straight titles from 2015-17.

The Bullets topped Johns Hopkins in the championship game for the fifth year in a row, including four straight in Baltimore. Both teams went on to represent the Centennial in the NCAA Tournament, with the Bullets bowing out in round one and the Blue Jays advancing to the Sweet 16 for the third year in a row. That marked the first time in CC history that a team reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament for three consecutive seasons. JHU downed Hunter and Baldwin Wallace in the opening two rounds before falling to Concordia Moorhead in round three.

Last season was the eighth season in a row and 18th overall that multiple CC teams qualified for the national tournament.

Both Hopkins and Gettysburg are receiving recognition in the national preseason polls. In the D3hoops.com poll, Hopkins is ranked eighth and Gettysburg is 17th. In the WBCA poll, Hopkins is ranked seventh while Gettysburg is receiving votes.

Five All-Centennial performers return to the conference this winter, led by McDaniel's Teya McConnaha. McConnaha, a senior forward, is the lone two-time all-star back in the conference this season and also earned Rookie of the Year accolades following the 2023-24 campaign. Teammate Lauren Cavoli, a junior guard, was an honorable mention pick last winter alongside McConnaha. The Johns Hopkins duo of Jocelyn Goldstein and Faith Williamson both earned honorable mention nods as freshmen last season, with Goldstein also garnering Rookie of the Year laurels. Haverford senior forward Audrey Jakway was a second team All-CC pick last year.
