Haverford Clinches No. 1 Seed in Women's Lacrosse for First Time

Fords and Diplomats to host Friday semifinals

Championship Homepage

For the first time since 2012 the Centennial Conference women's lacrosse championship will not feature an Franklin & Marshall vs. Gettysburg matchup, as Haverford clinched the top seed in the conference with a win over Swarthmore on Saturday.

For the 22 of the past 23 years the Diplomats and Bullets have squared off for the CC trophy, arguably the top CC rivalry in any sport. That storied matchup will take place in the semifinals this year, as Haverford earned the No. 1 seed via a tiebreaker. The Fords, Diplomats and Bullets each finished the conference regular season at 7-1 and were 1-1 head-to-head against each other, but the Fords earned the No. 1 seed via a goal-differential tiebreaker among the three tied teams.

F&M (8-8, 7-1 CC) secured the No. 2 by virtue of its head-to-head win over Gettysburg (12-5, 7-1 CC) in the regular season and will host the Bullets on Friday in the semifinals. The Diplomats edged Muhlenberg 9-8 in their regular season finale on Saturday while the Bullets downed Washington College 19-7.

Top-seeded Haverford (12-5, 7-1 CC) will host the winner of Wednesday's first round game in Friday's other semifinal. The Fords defeated Swarthmore 17-5 on Saturday to lock up the top seed. Despite the loss, Swarthmore (12-4, 5-3 CC) earned the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Washington College (10-6, 4-4 CC) in Wednesday's first round.

The two semifinals winners will clash on Sunday at the field of the highest remaining seed.
