BALTIMORE, MD – The sixth-ranked and ninth-seeded Johns Hopkins baseball team has been selected to host an NCAA Tournament Regional for the fourth straight season, as announced by the association Monday. The four-team regional includes Hopkins, Pfeiffer, Pomona-Pitzer and Mary Washington, with games to be played from May 15-17 at Babb Field at Stromberg Stadium.
The Blue Jays (33-9) earned an automatic bid after winning the program's 20
th – and fourth straight – Centennial Conference Championship. This marks the 28
th time Hopkins has appeared in the NCAA Tournament dating back to 1976, with the Blue Jays holding a 56-42 record in regional games.
Hopkins is joined by the Falcons (25-20), who won the program's first-ever USA South Championship, as well as the Sagehens (31-12), who captured their second SCIAC title in three years, and the Eagles (26-12) who received an at-large bid, falling in the Coast-to-Coast Conference championship game.
Series History
Friday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Hopkins and Pfeiffer.
Hopkins-Pfeiffer will open the Regional Friday, May 15 at 11 AM, with Pomona-Pitzer-Mary Washington to follow at 2:30 PM. The losers of Game 1 and 2 will then face off in Game 3 Saturday at 11 AM in an elimination game, with the winners of Friday's games going on to play each other in Game 4 at 2:30 PM for a spot in Sunday's Regional Final.
