CHATANOOGA, TN - Swarthmore College women's tennis standout
Lola Diaz dropped her opening round matchup at the NCAA Individual Championships on Friday. The senior fell to Skidmore College's Ginevra Muratori in a two-set decision.
Diaz found herself in an early hole after dropping the first three games of the opening set. The Centennial Conference Player of the Year won two of the next four games, but was unable to prolong the set with a late rally, dropping the opening contest 6-2.
Muratori got off to another quick start in the second set with a pair of victories until Diaz slowed down momentum with a game three win. Skidmore's standout answered back with three-straight wins, before Diaz took another game to remain in the fight. However, Diaz could not hold off her opponent, who clinched the next game with another 6-2 decision.
Diaz wraps up an outstanding four-year career with her first NCAA Individual Championship appearance. The senior went 11-13 this season, while playing a competitive schedule at the top singles position.
