Hopkins Named Preseason Favorite in Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll
LANCASTER, Pa. – Johns Hopkins has been tabbed as the preseason Centennial Conference men's soccer favorite, according to a vote of Centennial head coaches.
The Blue Jays claimed five first-place votes with a total of 76 points. Three other teams received at least one first-place vote in the poll, as the upcoming season figures to be another highly-competitive chase for the title and playoff positioning. Gettysburg (#3, 62 points) and defending-champion Washington College (#5, 53 points) each secured a first-place nod, while Franklin & Marshall (#2, 71 points) claimed the remaining three first-place votes.
Swarthmore (56) was picked fourth, with Haverford (41) projected to finish sixth. Muhlenberg (35), Ursinus (22), Dickinson (20), and McDaniel (14) rounded out the voting.
The 2022 season begins on Thursday, September 1 with nine of the 10 CC teams in action on opening day. Conference play is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, September 17, while the CC Tournament will open up with the first-round matchup on Tuesday, November 1.

Last season, a Centennial Conference record five men's soccer teams were selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament field including Washington College, Franklin & Marshall, Johns Hopkins, Gettysburg, and Swarthmore. This marked the first time that five conference teams were sent to the postseason.
In the 2021 CC Championship, Washington College claimed a 2-0 win over Gettysburg in the tournament final capturing their first-ever Centennial Championship. The Shoreman made their second NCAA Tournament appearance advancing to the Sweet 16.
In what is anticipated to be a deep and talented campaign, the Centennial will return 24 All-CC players from seven different teams.
Five United Soccer Coaches All-Region performers return this fall, including 2021 first team honoree Tim Treinen (Johns Hopkins). Gettysburg’s Connor Fife and 2021 CC Rookie of the Year Ian Whamond (Johns Hopkins) are back as all-region second-teamers, while Franklin & Marshall’s Shay Adamson and Washington College’s Eric Gwadz are third-team returners.
Nineteen All-Centennial players are back on the field this season, including Ursinus’ Marco Grenda (2021 1st team) and Nick Balbierer (2021 2nd team), Aidan O'Malley (2021 HM), Haverford’s Paul-Andre Coulibaly (2021 2nd team) and Max Mouer (2021 HM), Gettysburg’s Conor O'Donnell (2019 HM, 2021 2nd team) and Fritz Reiter (2021 2nd team), Jack Carroll (2021 HM), Nur Adhikarie (2021 HM), Johns Hopkins' Logan Falzarano (2021 2nd team) and Aidan Dunphy (2021 HM), Axel Whamond (2021 HM), Franklin & Marshall’s Sam Altman Farrell (2021 2nd team) and Connor Anderko (2021 HM), Muhlenberg’s Chris Richards (2019 1st team, 2021 HM), Washington College’s Harrison Malone (2021 HM) and Alex Coster (2021 HM), Swarthmore’s Sean Nolan (2021 HM) and Max Kral (2021 HM).
