The 2022 season witnessed another strong performance on the national level for Centennial men's soccer, as all three teams that qualified for the NCAA postseason - Muhlenberg, Johns Hopkins and F&M - advanced to the second round. JHU made it all the way to the Elite Eight before bowing out in penalty kicks by Stevens, 5-4.
The CC championship game featured one of the most dramatic finishes possible, with fifth-seeded Muhlenberg edging third-seeded Johns Hopkins 5-4 in penalty kicks following a scoreless regulation and overtime. The Mules hoisted the CC title for the first time since 2014 and seventh time overall, doing so in improbable fashion with three straight road triumphs.
Hopkins is ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason National Rankings, while F&M is 18th.
An astounding 31 players with All-Centennial laurels to their names and eight All-Region performers are back on the pitch this fall, showing the depth of young talent throughout the conference. Each CC team welcomes back at least one all-conference performer in 2023.
Muhlenberg's Chris Richards, JHU's Ian Whamond and F&M's Connor Anderko lead the returning all-stars with the most decorated career resumes to date. Richards is the reigning CC Offensive Player of the Year, the lone three-time All-CC performer in the conference this season, and a 2022 first team All-Region pick. Whamond is the only two-time All-Region honoree back this season and one of six players with multiple all-conference awards. Anderko was a first team All-Region choice in 2022 and is a two-time All-CC performer for the Diplomats.
