LYNCHBURG, Va. - For the second consecutive season the Dickinson men's soccer team will play for a right to be in the Final Four of the Division III Men's Soccer Championship. Senior forward
Saul Iwowo's goal off a corner kick with 24:39 gone in the first half lifted the Red and White past the host University of Lynchburg by a score of 1-0 at Shellenberger Field on Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Devils advance to Sunday's Elite Eight matchup at 3pm back in Lynchburg against Emory University.
First Half
- It took until the ninth minute to see the first shot of the match when Iwowo missed to the left of Thomas Viscuso. Two minutes later Timi Omoniwa had a look, but the Hornets defense broke it up.
- The 14th minute was when the home side came up with their first opportunity when Carlos Andres Romero sailed one to right of Nick Potter in the DC goal.
- The magic moment for the Red and White came in the 25th as a corner played in by Jeremy Sallade came to the hands of Viscuso. However, he was not able to control the ball as it dropped to Omoniwa who slipped a pass to Iwowo who jammed it across the line making it 1-0.
- Lynchburg recorded the final two attempts of the frame, fortunately, the offerings from Kohlby Wilson and Sean DeLorenzo did not test Potter.
Second Half
- The home side had a great opportunity at tying the match just over two minutes in as off a corner kick Bruno Rihl Silva had a chance, but could not bother Potter.
- In the 65th-minute a goalkeeper was finally called into action as Viscuso had to shutdown Iwowo who had a ball ticketed for the top left corner.
- With their season on the brink three different players tallied shots over the ensuing ten minutes. However, once again they were unable to ask Potter to make a save.
- With 75:17 gone, Potter finally had to make his first save of the game denying Izaack Cruz. The ensuing rebound skipped to Chris Bovo who blasted the ball over the net.
- Each side had another look at goal before the final horn as Nicholas Dwamena was unable to make it 2-0 and Keaton Napior was snuffed out by the Devils defense with 34-seconds left to end the match.
