Seven individuals and one relay will represent the Centennial Conference at the NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship this weekend. The championships are set for Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va., hosted by Norfolk State.
Individual CC qualifiers include Johns Hopkins' Victoria Kadiri, Lauren Phillips, Annie Huang, Sara Stephenson, and Sara Bartlett, Dickinson's Sara Penuela and Ursinus' Rainah Dunham. The JHU distance medley relay team of Mackenzie Setton, Lianne Saussy, Huang and Harrinee Senthilkumar will be the lone relay from the CC to compete.
For each women’s individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
JHU's Kadiri once again headlines the list of competitors from the Centennial as the two-time reigning national champion in the long jump, the defending champion in the triple jump and the defending Most Outstanding Field Performer of the national meet. Kadiri owns three of the four individual national titles in CC women's indoor history and will look to add to that total this weekend in four different events. The senior is seeded first in the triple jump, third in the long jump, fourth in the pentathlon and 10th in the 60-meter dash.
JHU's Stephenson has now qualified for nationals for the third straight season while Phillips returns for back-to-back years for the Blue Jays. Saussy is also back for the second straight year in a relay event. Phillips will look for a repeat All-America honor in the 400 after finishing as the runner-up last winter. The JHU junior is seeded sixth entering the weekend. Stephenson will run the 5000, where she is seeded eighth.
Other indivdiual seeds entering the championship include JHU's Huang at 11th in the 800, Ursinus' Dunham 11th in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump, JHU's Bartlett 14th in the triple jump, and Dickinson's Penuela 15th in the long jump.
The Hopkins DMR of Setton, Saussy, Huang and Senthilkumar enter the meet ranked fourth.
