Swarthmore & Johns Hopkins Secure Regional Titles

Swarthmore and Johns Hopkins both collected regional championships on Saturday to highlight Centennial Conference performances at the Mid-Atlantic and Metro Regionals. The Garnet secured the distinction of regional champions for the first time in program history while the Blue Jays earned top regional honors for the 17th year in a row. 

A total of 22 Centennial runers earned all-region accolades with top-35 finishes between the two regional championships. 


LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- After a runner-up finish a year ago, Swarthmore made history on Saturday, capturing its first-ever NCAA Metro Region championship at the Gloucester County DREAM Park. With the victory, the Garnet also qualified as a team for the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history. Swarthmore showed off its depth and dominated the field in the 6K race, totaling a program-best 71 points and topping second-place TCNJ by 32 points.
 
Six Garnet runners finished in the top-35 to garner all-region recognition, the most for the squad in the past 15 years. Olivia Montini (10th; 22:22.3), Elizabeth Page (12th; 22:27.3), Ania Wong (14th; 22:30.3), Charlotte Martin (22:38.4), Tea Malone-Bonacci (22nd; 22:45.0) and Aaliyah Anaskevich (35th; 23:08.7) nabbed top-35 placings for the Garnet. 

Ursinus' Mia Sideris was the top CC finisher in eighth place with a time of 22:01.9. Haverford's Savannah Shaw (21st; 22:44.3) and Muhlenberg's Jem Berney (31st; 22:58.5) also garnered all-region recognition with top-35 placings. 

Haverford placed seventh in the team standings with 198 points, followed by Muhlenberg in 13th (333) and Ursinus in 15th (390). 


NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Johns Hopkins captured its 17th straight regional championship on Saturday at the Mid-Atlantic Region hosted by Dickinson at Big Spring High School. The Blue Jays placed all seven runners in the top-35 as all-region honorees for the 11th time in the past 12 years. 

Hopkins totaled 42 points to top Carnegie Mellon (64) in the team standings. Gettysburg finished fifth with 187 points followed by Dickinson in ninth place (259), Franklin & Marshall in 11th place (274) and McDaniel in 20th place (603) among CC squads. 

Thirteen Centennial runners captured all-region awards with top-35 placings on Saturday. JHU's Adriana Catalano finished as the runner-up with a time of 21:30.78, while teammates Storrie Kulynych-Irvin (6th; 21:57.70) and Cooper Brotherton (9th; 22:00.92) also finished in the top 10. 

JHU's Elena Blodnikar (12th; 22:08.19) and Ani Wedemeyer (13th; 22:17.41) went back-to-back while teammate Natalie Boquist (17th; 22:21.63) and Dickinson's Liza Barbash (19th; 22:23.60) also placed in the top 20. Other CC all-region performers included F&M's Tara Silverman (21st; 22:30.40) and Katie Scott (24th; 22:35.18), Gettysburg's Rowe Crawford (25th; 22:36.23), Dickinson's Meghan Higgins-Haas (29th; 22:44.51), Gettysburg's Sarah Smith (31st; 22:48.79), and JHU's Aisling Callahan (35th; 22:54.88).
