BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr College Athletics Department is excited to announce the hiring of Haley Markos as the new head coach of the Owls' cross country and track & field programs, effective Monday, July 21.

Markos joins Bryn Mawr following a successful tenure at Pratt Institute, where she coached the 2025 Atlantic East Conference Field Event Athlete of the Year to a conference title in the triple jump and a runner-up finish in the long jump.

Prior to her time at Pratt, Markos served as an assistant coach at Smith College from 2022–2024, helping lead the cross country team to its first back-to-back NCAA National Championship appearances in over 30 years. During her time with the program, Smith achieved nine NCAA qualifiers, produced an NCAA All-American in the indoor mile, and earned a team runner-up finish at the 2023 NEWMAC Championships behind only MIT. Under her leadership, the program broke eight school records across distance events while maintaining one of the top-10 team GPAs in NCAA Division III. Her efforts earned Smith the 2022 NEWMAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Markos also made significant contributions to Smith's track & field team as the throws coach, playing a key role in revitalizing the program's field event performance.

Before Smith, Markos was a volunteer assistant at Bowdoin College from 2021–2022, where she led the distance group and helped guide four NCAA Cross Country qualifiers and three top-five finishes at the New England Track & Field Championships.

A decorated student-athlete herself, Markos was a four-year member of the cross country and track & field teams at Smith College. Markos also competed on the swim & dive team during her first year at Smith College, setting three school records. She earned both her Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Master's Degree in Exercise and Sport Studies from Smith, a fellow Seven Sisters institution.

In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Markos is deeply passionate about youth development. She spent five years coaching with the Sugarloaf Mountain (MA) Running Club Youth Track program and continues to serve as a summer coach at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center running camps in Vermont.

"We are excited to embark on this new chapter with Coach Haley Markos," says Bryn Mawr Athletic Director Cristina Fink. "She has experience as an athlete and as a coach, and we believe she can connect with our scholar-athletes and inspire them."

Bryn Mawr Athletics is thrilled to welcome Coach Markos to the Owls community and looks forward to the future of the cross country and track & field programs under her leadership.
