LANCASTER, Pa. -- The Centennial Conference celebrated the fourth annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Day of Service on Sunday, September 27, in partnership with GiGi's Playhouse.
The annual event brings SAAC leaders from across the Centennial Conference together to give back to their communities and make an impact beyond athletics.
For the second consecutive year, the conference partnered with GiGi's Playhouse to host an open play day for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Student-athletes spent the day connecting with the GiGi's Playhouse community and helping create a welcoming space for everyone.
The day opened with a conversation led by Alisha Fitzwater, Program and Volunteer Coordinator at GiGi's Playhouse. Fitzwater shared the story behind the organization and spoke with SAAC leaders about leadership through service and the importance of giving back to their communities.
GiGi's Playhouse provides free educational, therapeutic, and career development programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Through its work, the organization aims to change the way the world views Down syndrome while promoting acceptance and inclusion.
Previous Centennial Conference SAAC Day of Service partners include the HeadStrong Foundation and the Power Packs Project. The conference remains committed to continuing this tradition of service and leadership through future SAAC initiatives.
