NCAA Bracket
Gettysburg held off MIT to advance to the third round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament on Sunday afternoon, while Franklin & Marshall and Haverford each had seasons come to an end with second round losses.
In Cambridge, Mass., 13th-ranked Gettysburg opened up a 7-1 lead early in the second quarter and held off a second-half charge from 24th-ranked MIT to register a 13-9 win in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Maddie Passarello led the Bullets with five goals, seven draw controls and three ground balls. Julia Daly added another four goals and two assists. Grace Battle added seven draw controls and a goal. As a team, the Bullets won 17 of 24 draw controls. Camryn Epstein led the defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Gettysburg returns to action in the third round at Tufts on Saturday. Williams and Colorado College will square off in the other third round matchup, with the winners to face off on Sunday for a spot in the Final Four.
In Hartford, Conn., F&M saw its NCAA tournament run come to a close with a 12-7 defeat at the hands of No. 10 Trinity (Conn.) on Sunday afternoon. Similar to the first game between the squads, F&M was trailing just 6-5 before the Bantams made their run as they scored six straight to close the third and begin the fourth quarter.
Sophie Harris, Devyn Crone and Annie Marshall paced the Diplomats' attack with two goals apiece. F&M finished the game with a 26-21 advantage in shots as both teams recorded 18 shots on goal. Sara DiGiovanni made six saves for the Diplomats, while her counterpart made 11 saves on the afternoon. Lauren Pittman led the team with four draw controls.
In Medford, Mass., 23rd-ranked Haverford (14-7) saw its season come to a close in the NCAA second round with a 17-7 defeat to No. 4 Tufts (15-3) at Bello Field at Tufts.
Haverford senior co-captain Brooke Epstein added a career record for the second consecutive day, as she tallied a hat-trick to pull to 219 career goals, etching her name at the top of the all-time goals list at Haverford. In two matches this weekend, Epstein eclipsed Lindsay Carey-Bean '00 in both the points (292) and goals (219) chase in Haverford history and finishes her season with 67 goals.
Kylie McNamara also added two goals for the Fords. Bella Gattuso and Natalie Bole also found the back of the net for the visitors.
