Athletes of the Week: Sept. 21-27

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly honors have been distributed for the week of Sept. 21-27, 2026. Conference play is now underway in field hockey and soccer, with a few CC volleyball matches having also taken place. 

Melissa Eyer of Swarthmore volleyball headlines this week's honorees as a repeat pick. Continue below for the full list of weekly awards. 
FIELD HOCKEY

Offensive Player of the Week
Sydney Yaw, Jr., F, Gettysburg

West Chester, Pa. | West Chester Rustin 
Yaw led the Bullets to a 2-0 week in which the offense exploded for nine goals. Yaw scored three goals on the week, including two in the Centennial Conference opener at Washington College on Saturday. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Meghan Dole, Sr., GK, Franklin & Marshall 
Radnor, Pa. | Radnor 
Dole stopped six of the seven shots (.857 save percentage) she faced in No. 8 F&M's lone game last week, a 2-1 victory over Haverford in double overtime. She made three of her saves while the game was tied to maintain the deadlock before Caitlin Hoover's game-winning goal in the second overtime period.

MEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week
Eliot Bowen, So., F, Ursinus 
Jefferson Twp., Pa. | North Pocono
Bowen scored in each game to lead Ursinus to victories over William Paterson and McDaniel. Against William Paterson on Tuesday, Bowen scored in the fourth minute, sparking the Bears to a 2-0 shutout victory. On Saturday against McDaniel, Bowen once again opened the scoring by notching a goal in the 16th minute to lead Ursinus to a 2-1 victory. The victory over McDaniel marked the Bears' first since defeating the Green Terror, 3-2, in 2021. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Calvin Field, Jr., GK, Washington College 
Woodstock, Conn. | Woodstock Academy 
Field recorded his first two career shutouts and totaled 15 saves in a 1-0-1 week for the Shoremen. In the team's 2-0 win over visiting York (Pa.) on Tuesday night, Field denied a career-best nine shots and netted his first-ever clean sheet. The junior had four saves in the second half, including three when the team was nursing a 1-0 advantage. On Saturday evening against Dickinson, Field turned away six shots, including a shot ticketed for the upper right corner with 23:41 to go in the contest to keep the match tied and allowed the Shoremen to earn a draw.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Gwen Rauvola, Jr., F, Johns Hopkins 
San Diego, Calif. | Point Loma 
Rauvola helped lead the Blue Jays to a pair of conference victories against McDaniel (3-0) and Haverford (2-0) last week.  She scored her first career goal against the Green Terror to give the Jays a 2-0 lead, then netted what proved to be the game-winner against the Fords.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Liesel Blau, Sr., M, Swarthmore
Dana Point, Calif. | St. Margaret's Episcopal 
Blau scored in both contests for the 21st-ranked Garnet, leading them to a 2-0 week. She found the back of the net in a 6-0 victory at Bryn Mawr. The senior then tallied the lone goal in a 1-0 win at Franklin and Marshall.

Defensive Player of the Week
Maddie Burchfiel, So., D, Johns Hopkins
The Woodlands, Texas | The John Cooper School 
Burchfiel led the way for a Johns Hopkins defense that posted a pair of shutouts on the week. The Blue Jays topped McDaniel (3-0) and Haverford (2-0) and allowed a total of just 10 shots in the two victories.  The shutouts are the fourth and fifth of the year for Johns Hopkins.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Ivy Swafford, Sr., OH, Johns Hopkins 
Johnson City, Texas | Lyndon B. Johnson
Swafford powered the Blue Jays to a 2-0 showing at the Hopkins Invitational, including wins against Scranton and St. John Fisher. Across eight sets, the outside hitter tallied 43 kills (5.38 per set) on a .422 hitting percentage, seven aces and 22 digs (2.75 per set). Named to the All-Tournament Team, Swafford tallied a career-high 25 kills against the Royals, and followed up that performance with 18 kills on a .500 hitting percentage in a sweep over the Cardinals. The seniors’ 18 kills in the win over St. John Fisher gives her 67 in the last three matches. 67 kills are the most by a Johns Hopkins player in a three-match span in at least 10 years. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Melissa Eyer, Jr., DS/L, Swarthmore 
Nampa, Idaho | Skyview
Eyer repeated as Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 66 digs (6.60 per set), 10 assists, and a team-high six aces in a 3-0 weekend at the Garnet's own Swarthmore Invitational. She started the week with 14 digs, three assists, and one ace in a 3-0 sweep of Salisbury, who was receiving votes in the national poll. Eyer helped limit the Sea Gulls to a .139 hitting percentage. She produced a season-high 29 digs, just one shy of her career best, along with four aces and four assists in a 3-1 win over Widener, limiting the Pride to a .051 hitting percentage. Eyer finished the week with 23 digs, three assists, and one ace in a 3-0 shutout of DeSales, who also received national votes. The Bulldogs hit just .159 in the match.
