LANCASTER, Pa. -- Conference play opened up in men's and women's soccer last week as week three of the fall season is now in the books. Centennial Conference award winners have been announced for the week of Sept. 11-17 in cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Athlete of the Week
Peter LaRochelle, Jr., Haverford
Great Barrington, Mass. | Monument Mountain Regional
LaRochelle crossed in second place out of 85 competitors at the Main Line Invitational, and was top attached finisher on the afternoon. LaRochelle toed the finish line in 19:43.7, 10.9 seconds ahead of the third-place individual finisher Kai Mitchel-Reiss. LaRochelle bested some Big 5 competition – Dennis Fortuna of Division I Penn (20:02) and LaSalle's Alex Sandras (20:03.9) – as the trio were the only three attached runners in the top 10 finishers.

Athlete of the Week

Weston, Mass. | The Rivers School
Stephenson once again looked dominant at Friday's Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions, finishing in fourth place with a time of 18:13.1. The graduate student's time marked the second fastest 5K by a Johns Hopkins runner at the course in program history and earned her a second straight top-five finish after she won the Baltimore Metro Invitational two weeks ago.

Offensive Player of the Week
Katherine Kohn, Jr., F, Swarthmore
Bethesda, Md. | Holton Arms School
Kohn tallied a goal and an assist on the week as the Garnet registered one-goal wins over DeSales and Stevens. The junior opened the week with the game-tying goal in the 56th minute against DeSales, which Swarthmore went on to win in double overtime. Kohn then assisted on the game's lone goal at Stevens in a 1-0 victory.
Defensive Player of the Week
Mikayla Schoff, Sr., M, Johns Hopkins
McLean, Va. | Langley
Schoff led Johns Hopkins to a 2-1 shootout win over fourth-ranked Salisbury Wednesday in the Blue Jays' only game of the week. She anchored a Blue Jay defense that held the Sea Gulls, which ranked eighth in the nation in scoring, to four goals below their season average. JHU also held SU to just nine shots after averaging more than 23 shots per game. She also scored the game's opening goal off a corner and then took the first penalty shootout attempt, drawing a penalty stroke that was successful.

Horwitz had a monster week for the Diplomats, tallying six goals and one assist as the Diplomats went 2-0-1. The senior opened the week with his first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over Rosemont. Horwitz then scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the 4-2 victory over Penn State Harrisburg. The forward capped his huge week on offense scoring the game-tying goal in the 84th minute in Saturday's Centennial Conference opener at Haverford.
Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Mulford, So., GK, Muhlenberg
North Bethesda, Md. | Georgetown Prep
Mulford made six saves while allowing just one goal in 172 minutes in a 1-0-1 week for the Mules that included a 1-1 tie at Johns Hopkins in a rematch of last year's CC championship game. Mulford played the first 82 minutes of a 4-0 shutout of DeSales, stopping three shots. He also recorded three saves in the Hopkins game, including one reflex save on a point-blank shot to preserve the tie in the second half.

Zitelli the Garnet with two goals and an assist in a 1-0-1 week. The junior midfielder scored the second goal of the game for the Garnet in an eventual 2-2 draw against an undefeated Rowan squad. In Saturday's conference-opening 3-0 win vs. Gettysburg, Zitelli tallied a goal and an assist, with the assist coming on the game-winner.

East Northport, N.Y. | Elwood-John Glenn
Hoolahan notched a pair of shutouts including an upset win over top-ranked Messiah on Wednesday. Against the Falcons, Hoolahan tallied six saves including two diving stops in the first half of a 1-0 Green Terror victory. On Saturday, she held Ursinus scoreless and picked up three saves in a 0-0 draw with the Bears.

Swaak averaged 13.1 assists per set (118 total) in a 3-0 week for the Blue Jays, who didn't drop a set at the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca. Swaak's impressive week improved her season average to a conference-best 10.5 assists per set. In the Jays' matchup with 25th-ranked Ithaca, Swaak racked up 35 assists with nine digs and a season-high three blocks. The McLean, Va. native followed the win up with a 44-assist effort in another victory over Susquehanna before ending her weekend with season-high marks in kills (4) and digs (13) to go along with another 39 assists in a win over SUNY Geneseo.

Meredith Mangum, Sr., Libero, Franklin & Marshall
Peachtree Corners, Ga. | Wesleyan School
Mangum, the reigning Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year, recorded a career-best 29 digs against No. 12 Trinity (Texas) and then matched that total during the Diplomats' thrilling five-set victory over Pomona-Pitzer this weekend. The Diplomats finished their weekend in Texas with a 2-1 record as the senior captain added 16 digs during the opener against Whittier and was eventually selected as one of seven players named to the All-Tournament Team. Mangum finished her three-game week with 74 digs, averaging 5.69 per set, adding 10 assists and one service ace to her efforts.
