Athletes of the Week: Nov. 11-17

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference honors have been announced for the week of Nov. 11-17, 2024 in the sports of basketball, swimming and wrestling. 
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Gaven Marr, So., G, Haverford 
Glenview, Ill. | Glenbrook South
Marr was the spark plug to a 2-0 week for Haverford that saw the Fords put up 95 points on Wednesday and reach the century mark in points on Saturday. The sophomore averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 52% from the field (16-for-31), 47% from three-point range (8-for-17) and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. In a 95-65 victory over Rosemont, Marr put up a game-high 18 points with three triples, a game-high eight rebounds, three assists and a steal and a block. In a 100-87 win over Lycoming, Marr went 10-for-18 from the field en route to a season-high 27 points, while going 5-for-9 from behind the three-point arc. The guard added two rebounds, an assist, and three steals to his stat line, as Haverford reached the 100-point threshold for the first time in nearly a decade.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Alayna Arnolie, Jr., G, Gettysburg
Vienna, Va. | James Madison
Arnolie led the Bullets to a 3-0 start to the season, averaging 18.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and a steal per game. She scored double digits in all three games, including pouring in 27 points against Randolph-Macon on Saturday. Her 42 points in the two games at the Jean Beamer Classic hosted by Roanoke earned her tournament MVP honors. Arnolie shot 48.9% (22-for-45) from the floor on the week and connected on 7 of 18 (38.9%) attempts from long range.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Danny Castle, So., Swarthmore
Highland Park, Ill. | Highland Park 
Castle led the Garnet with a pair of individual victories in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while also placing first as a member of the 200 freestyle relay in Swarthmore's 155-49 victory versus Washington College. Castle captured his first win of the night in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.99. The sophomore also enjoyed a top finish in the 100 backstroke at 53.16, where he edged out teammate Jacob Sherman by a tenth of a second. Swarthmore won the 200 freestyle relay, finishing at 1:27.36. Castle also battled to the final round of the 50 backstroke skins race against No. 19 TCNJ, but settled for a runner-up finish. Castle improved in every round as he touched the wall at 24.47 in his final swim. He also swam on the Garnet's second-place 6x50 free relay (2:08.10) against the Lions.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Ava Craig, So., Swarthmore
Fairfax, Va. | C.G. Woodson
Craig led the Garnet with a pair of individual victories in a 171-32 win over Washington College. The sophomore was victorious in the 100 and 200 freestyles, while also competing on the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:39.74). Craig captured her first of two victories in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.29. She then narrowly beat out teammate Quinn Weygandt to win the 100 freestyle at 53.47. Her time in the 200 free ranks 35th in Division III.

WRESTLING

Athlete of the Week
Reid Garrison, Sr., 285, Merchant Marine
Broadway, Va. | Broadway
Garrison went 3-0 last week with two pins and a decision as the Mariners went 3-0 in dual action with victories over New Jersey City, Hunter and 16th-ranked NYU en route to the team title at the Metro Duals. Garrison opened the day with a pin in 1:02 over New Jersey City before pinning his Hunter opponent in just 24 seconds. The senior heavyweight closed out the Metro Duals with an 8-1 decision over NYU's Evan Anderson, who is ranked 19th in the latest d3wrestle.com national rankings.
