Athletes of the Week: Nov. 4-10

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Last week marked the final week of the regular season in volleyball and the first week of the season in basketball as the fall/winter crossover season is now in full swing. 

Cami Wilson of Swarthmore men's swimming leads this week's honorees with his second weekly honor just a month into the campaign. Wilson broke his own CC record in the 100 butterfly to highlight this week's awards.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Gia Frank, So., OPP, Haverford
Van Nuys, Calif. | Oakwood School
Frank helped the Fords clinch a playoff spot with key Centennial Conference wins over Muhlenberg and Swarthmore last week. The sophomore notched 3.63 kills per set at a .421% clip while also accumulating eight blocks and two digs. Against the Mules on Wednesday, the Van Nuys, Calif. native notched a game-high 13 kills (4.33 kills per set) to go along with two digs, five blocks, and a .407 hitting percentage, in a 3-0 sweep. On Saturday against Swarthmore, the sophomore collected 16 kills for the third time this season with a .433 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks in the five-set thriller against the Garnet. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Jilienne Widener, Gr., OPP/OH, Johns Hopkins
Westminster, Md. | Westminster
Widener was a wall in a crucial 2-0 week for the Blue Jays, averaging 1.43 blocks and 1.43 digs per set in wins over Dickinson and F&M to help Hopkins clinch the top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. The graduate student opened her week with a five-block, eight-dig performance in a 3-1 victory over the Red Devils before matching her block total with another five in a sweep of F&M. Widener was also impactful on the attacking end, averaging 2.86 kills per set on a .227 hitting percentage.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Trevor Wall, Sr., G, Ursinus

Wall had a big opening weekend with averages of 25.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 56% (18-for-32) from the field and 55% (6-for-11) from three at the Bear Bash Tip-Off Tournament. Wall opened the weekend with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists on Friday night in a 99-65 win over Immaculata. He followed that up with a career-high 38 points on 15-of-23 shooting and 6-of-9 from three-point range along with dishing out three assists on Saturday against Wilkes. He was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Jessica Smith, Sr., G, Bryn Mawr
Turlock, Calif. | Pitman 
Smith led the Owls to the Gryphon Invitational team title at Sarah Lawrence and was named tournament MVP with averages of 24.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 51% (18-for-35) from the floor, 67% (2-for-3) from three and 92% (11-for-12) from the charity stripe. In the Owls' opening game vs. host Sarah Lawrence, Smith racked up a career-high 30 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals to lead Bryn Mawr to a 73-57 win. During Sunday's championship game she recorded 19 points, three steals, and was perfect from the charity stripe, cashing in nine free throws to lead the Owls to a 68-61 win against Marywood.

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week

Birmingham, Mich. | International Academy
Wilson produced the highlight of the Chicago D3 Shootout for the Garnet, touching second in the 100 butterfly in 48.16 seconds. He broke his own Centennial Conference and program records with the swim, which was also a NCAA B cut. The junior ranks third in the country in the 100 butterfly. Wilson also earned a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.51, which ranks seventh nationally.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Elle Anthony, Jr., Swarthmore
Milton, Mass. | Milton
Anthony produced two individual NCAA B cuts and one as a member of the 400 medley relay (3:49.77) at the Chicago D3 Shootout. The junior finished under last year's NCAA qualifying time and swam to an NCAA B cut in the 50 Freestyle (23.50) with the second fastest time in the event. She also went on to race to the top spot in the 100 freestyle (51.00). Her time was below the NCAA B cut and bested last season's NCAA invited time. Anthony is currently tied for the fastest time in the nation in the 100 freestyle and ranks fifth in the 50 freestyle.

WRESTLING

Athlete of the Week
Max Parnis, So., Ursinus
West Chester, Pa. | West Chester East
Parnis went 5-0 en route to the 149-pound title at the Racich Rumble on Saturday. He recorded three pinfalls, a decision, and a 17-2 technical fall in the finals to earn the championship. After three consecutive falls to open the tournament, he took out top-seeded Chris Perry of Trinity (Conn.) via a 9-6 decision, to reach the finals. Perry is ranked sixth in Region I. Parnis closed out the individual title with a 17-0 technical fall over Messiah's Levi Snyder in the championship round.
