LANCASTER, Pa. -- McDaniel sophomore Thomas Monn repeated as Wrestler of the Year to highlight the 2024 All-Centennial Wrestling Team. Ursinus freshman Sean Cowan and the Ursinus coaching staff received the other major awards as Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year, respectively.
Monn becomes just the second Centennial wrestler to repeat as Wrestler of the Year, joining former Johns Hopkins standout Dominick Reyes (2020 & 2022) in that illustrious category. Sporting a 28-2 record and 22 bonus-point wins through last weekend's CC championship, Monn captured his second-straight conference title at 149 pounds and was named the Co-Most Outstanding Performer of the championship meet. In addition to his CC title, Monn won tournament titles at the Messiah Invitational and Washington and Jefferson Invitational earlier in the year. This marks the fourth time a McDaniel wrestler has received the honor in the 12-year history of the award.
Cowan received Rookie of the Year laurels following a superb freshman campaing for the Bears. The 174-pounder boasts a 33-7 overall record that includes the CC title, a second-place finish at the Messiah Invitational, third at the Racich Rumble, Will Abele Invitational, and Citrus Invitational, and sixth at the New Standard Corporation Invitational. Cowan has registered 10 falls, five technical falls and five major decisions in his 40 bouts.
The Ursinus coaching staff secured Coaching Staff of the Year for the second season in a row. Head coach Joe Jamison, associate head coach Anthony Terlizzi and assistants Mike Spaid, Pat Curry, Michael Childs, Lee Cox, and Frankie Krauss led the Bears to their second consecutive and 13th overall Centennial title last Saturday. The Bears also completed a perfect 5-0 mark during the CC dual season for the second straight year with a 10-2 overall dual mark.
Nine wrestlers earned repeat All-Centennial accolades based on their performances at the CC championship. Repeat first-team selections as individual champions in their weight classes included Muhlenberg's Joey Lamparelli (125), Gettysburg's Luke Kowalski (141), McDaniel's Monn (149) and Jaedyn Harris (197) and Merchant Marine's Reid Garrison (285). Harris was also honored following the championship with the prestigious Chris Clifford Award, which is given to the senior wrestler with the most career points at the CC meet.
McDaniel's Xavier Howard (157) and Ursinus' Shawn Marchesano (165) secured first team honors for the first time after landing on the second team in 2023. Ursinus' Jake Ahmad (285) and Johns Hopkins' Chris Roybal (174) also became two-time CC all-stars with their runner-up finishes.
Champions at the Centennial meet are named first-team All-Centennial, while runners-up receive second team honors. Ursinus leads all Centennial schools with 62 champions since 1994. McDaniel and Muhlenberg are tied for second with 51 apiece, followed by Merchant Marine (36), Stevens (35), Johns Hopkins (28), Gettysburg (27), Washington and Lee (7), Swarthmore (2) and NYU (1).
