The 2024 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25 at Schnader Fieldhouse on the campus of Franklin & Marshall College. The two-day event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue through Sunday afternoon with 19 events to be held for both the men and women.
Ten-time defending champion Johns Hopkins seeks its 11th straight title this weekend. JHU totaled 192.5 points, edging second-place Ursinus by 14.5 points. The Blue Jays defeated second-place Ursinus by 30.8 points in last year's championship meet. Four CC squads are ranked among the top 10 of USTFCCCA regional rankings entering this weekend. In the Mid-Atlantic Region, Hopkins is rated second and Dickinson is ninth. In the Metro region, Ursinus is third and Haverford is fourth.
The last team other than Hopkins to hoist the Centennial men's indoor trophy was Haverford in 2012. In the 29-year history of the Centennial indoor meet, Haverford owns the most team titles with 17, followed by Hopkins (10), Dickinson (1) and Franklin & Marshall (1).
A trio of conference records were broken during the regular season. Dickinson's Ethan Hart broke his own shot put record with a mark of 17.13 meters on Feb. 2 and enters the weekend ranked sixth nationall in the event. Ursinus' Aiden Tobin set new CC standards in the 200 meters twice, most recently posting a time of 21.76 seconds on Feb. 10. McDaniel's Tyren Proctor broke his own 60 hurdles record on Jan. 14 with a time of 8.25.
Led by Hart, eight returning individual champions will vie for golds once again this weekend. Hart will aim for a three-peat in the shot put, a feat that only three previous CC athletes have accomplished. McDaniel's Oral-Anthony Coleman will try to repeat in the 60-meter dash, while teammate Proctor aims to reclaim the 60 hurdles title that he won in 2022. The Ursinus duo of Daniel Tabor (400) and Markel Roberts-Jackson (high jump) aim for repeat golds, as will the Hopkins trio of Peter Lim (pole vault), James Reilly (heptathlon) and Gavin McElhennon. McElhennon won the 5,000 last year, but will be competing in the 3,000 this year.
Tabor is the reigning Most Outstanding Track Performer of the indoor meet after winning the 400 and contributing to a pair of championship-record-breaking relays for the Bears last winter.
