LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore swept the major awards as Quinn Weygandt, Genine Collins and the Garnet coaching staff received top honors to headline the 2024 All-Centennial Women's Swimming Team. Weygandt was honored as Swimmer of the Year, Collins secured Rookie of the Year and the Swarthmore coaching staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year to round out the major awards.
Weygandt continued her record-breaking campaign at last weekend's Centennial championship, breaking her own 200 IM and 400 IM conference and championship meet records while also setting Gettysburg pool records in both events en route to Most Outstanding Performer of the meet honors. Weygandt added a third individual victory in the 200 butterfly with another pool record time at the CC meet, while also contributing to gold-medal 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams. Weygandt's times from the championship each rank among the top-20 on the national performance list, with her 400 IM time (4:22.09) ranked third, her 200 IM time (2:03.38) eighth, and her 200 butterfly time (2:03.28) currently 17th in Division III. Her 200 butterfly time and top 200 freestyle time both rank fourth all-time in CC history.
Collins earned Rookie of the Year accolades following a dominant first-year campaign up to this point. The freshman established herself as one of the top sprinters in conference history early on in year and lost only one individual race throughout the CC dual meet season. At the Centennial championship, Collins took home a total of six golds, two individually and four as part of relays, while also securing a bronze in the 100 freestyle. Collins' individual golds came in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, with her 50 freestyle time (23.11) setting new conference, championship and pool records and ranking seventh in the nation. She was also part of record-breaking swims in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay for the CC-champion Garnet. On the national performance list, her 100 freestyle time ranks 23rd and her 100 butterfly time is 24th.
The Swarthmore coaching staff was selected by their peers as Coaching Staff of the Year for the second year in a row. Head coach Karin Colby and assistants Sam Davy, Dave Washick, Mike Pace, Leisha Shaffer and Charlie Kennedy guided the Garnet to their third consecutive CC title and another unblemished 11-0 dual record, including 7-0 against CC squads. The Garnet are ranked 16th in the nation by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
Gold medalists at the CC championship earn first team All-Centennial honors and silver medalists earn second team All-Centennial honors in both individual events and relays. Individual bronze medalists are named All-Centennial honorable mention. Swarthmore led the All-Centennial team with 13 swimmers earning recognition. Gettysburg was second with nine All-CC performers, while Ursinus (4), Dickinson (1) and Franklin & Marshall (1) also earned spots in the all-star team.
