CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - McDaniel senior Thomas Monn finished third at 149 pounds on the final day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at Alliant Energy Power House on Saturday. Ursinus' Mohamed Abdelatty also competed on day two of the championship, taking eighth place at 285 pounds.
McDaniel placed 25th in the team standings with 18.5 points. Ursinus placed 37th with 9.5 points and Gettysburg finished 54th with two poiints.
Monn, the first wrestler in McDaniel program history and fourth in the Centennial Conference to earn three All-America honors, tied the best ever finish for a Green Terror at the national championships. Brock Glotfelty finished third at 285 pounds in 2011 and Ryan O'Boyle placed third at 133 pounds in 2016. Monn improved his finish at the national championships every year after placing sixth in 2023, fifth in 2025, and third in 2026. He finished his final season with a 44-1 record, totaling 38 bonus-point victories with 20 falls, 13 tech falls, and five major decisions.
For his career, Monn had a record of 146-12, with a mark of 62-1 in duals, 84-11 in tournament matches, and 12-6 at the national championships. He also totaled 64 falls, 24 tech falls, and 27 major decisions. His 146 wins ranks second on the all-time CC career wins list, behind only 159 from Steven's Zach Wilhelm (2015-18).
The top-seed at 149 pounds and ranked second nationally, Monn began the day against the nation's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds, Dom Mallinder of Wisconsin-Whitewater who was seeded fifth. With the match tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, it headed to sudden victory. Both earned an escape and take down point in the second overtime, but Mallinder won the tiebreaker with 12 seconds of riding time to advance to the finals.
Mallinder would finish second after falling to eighth-ranked and sixth-seeded Cade Siebrecht of Central by decision in the national championship match, 4-1.
In the consolation semifinals, Monn registered a fall in 6:34 over Coast Guard's Nate Fitt before facing a rematch against ninth-seeded and 11th-ranked Max Mukhamedaliyev of the University of Chicago in the third-place match. Monn, who posted a 5-3 decision over Mukhamedaliyev in the championship quarterfinals, did not need long in the second showdown as he recorded his second consecutive fall in just 48 seconds.
Monn finished his career as a three-time All-American, three-time regional champion, four-time Centennial Conference champion, four-time Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Year, and three-time Most Outstanding Performer at the Centennial Conference Wrestling Championships. He also holds the program records for career wins, career falls, and single-season wins.
Abdelatty finished 0-2 on the second day of competition to conclude the tournament with a 2-3 overall mark. He fell by an 8-1 decision in his opening match against Baldwin Wallace's Andrew Vanscoy before dropping his seventh-place bout against Wabash's Titus Waters by a 7-4 score.
