LANCASTER, Pa. -- Dickinson's Trevor Richwine and Johns Hopkins' Sebastian Tangelson were named Athletes of the Year while JHU's Caleb Tenney and the Hopkins coaching staff also secured major awards on the 2026 All-Centennial Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team.
Richwine was selected as the Track Athlete of the Year following a record-setting regular season and championship meet. During the regular season, Richwine broke the 29-year-old conference record in the 800 meters previously held by Karl Paranya of Haverford. Richwine's time of 1:47.46 at the Virginia Challenge bested Paranya's long-standing time of 1:48.26 from 1997, and also ranks as the second-fastest 800 time in NCAA Division III history. At last weekend's CC meet, Richwine set a new championship record in the 800 (1:48.57) and the 4x800 relay (7:39.44) and also anchored the gold-medal 4x400 relay for the Red Devils.
Tangelson was chosen as Field Athlete of the Year. The Hopkins junior recorded a decathlon score of 6,613 points at the Navy Spring Invitational on April 17, which ranks third all-time in CC history and 14th on the Division III national list. Tangelson competed in six different events at the CC championship, taking fourth in the 110 hurdles, seventh in the high jump, eighth in the pole vault and ninth in the long jump.
Tenney claimed Rookie of the Year laurels after winning the 1500 meters at the Centennial championship and posting one of the top times in the nation in the event during the regular season. Tenney's top time of 3:47.42 in the 1500 ranks ninth all-time in conference history and 11th in Division III. He also boasts a 14:30.05 in the 5,000 meters, which ranks 44th nationally this spring.
The Johns Hopkins coaching staff was selected by the other coaches in the conference as Coaching Staff of the Year. JHU head coach Bobby Van Allen and assistants Alex Jebb, Jefferson Butler, Stephanie Colby, Cullen Doody, Dan Schuman, Nikhil Bagchi, Casey Comber and Grace Hadley guided the Blue Jays to back-to-back outdoor titles.
The major awards are voted on by the conference head coaches, while first team, second team and honorable mention honors are awarded based on placings at the Centennial championship meet. Every gold medal individual and relay team earns first team honors, every silver medal individual and relay team earns second team honors, and every bronze medal individual is named to the honorable mention squad.
