Athletes of the Week: Nov. 18-24

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference honors have been announced for the week of Nov. 18-24, 2024 in the sports of basketball, swimming and wrestling. 

Merchant Marine's Reid Garrison headlines this week's award winners, repeating as Wrestler of the Week following another unbeaten weekend of action.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Carl Schaller, Sr., G, Gettysburg
Garnet Valley, Pa. | Garnet Valley 
Schaller led the Bullets to a 3-0 week that included two wins over ranked opponents at the Hampden-Sydney Tip-Off Tournament. He averaged 21.0 points per game on the week, shooting 56.4 percent from the floor. On Tuesday, he scored 29 points at Bryn Athyn to eclipse 1,000 points for his career. He then scored 10 points against No. 20 Maryville (Tenn.) and 24 against No. 23 Hampden-Sydney to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Schaller also shot 70.6 percent (12 of 17) from the line, hit seven 3-pointers, grabbed 15 rebounds, handed out eight assists and nabbed four steals.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Athlete of the Week
Kaitlyn Boggs, Jr., C, Washington College

Boggs averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 79% (19-for-24) from the floor in a 2-0 week for the Shorewomen. In a 77-63 win at Penn State Abington on Tuesday, Boggs scored a career-best 33 points, on 13-for-15 shooting from the field, and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds as Washington rallied for a 13-point first half deficit. She became the first Washington player to score 30 or more points in a game since Jane O'Donnell ‘10 netted 30 in January 2007.  On Saturday, the junior tallied 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor, and grabbed six boards in the team’s 61-49 win over visiting Gallaudet.  For the week, Boggs also 90% from the foul line (9-for-10) for the week.

Co-Athlete of the Week
Connor Mangan, Fr., Gettysburg

Mangan set a new Centennial Conference and school record in the 200 backstroke to lead the Bullets to a third-place finish at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Chicago over the weekend. On Sunday he posted thee top qualifying time in thee 200 backstroke with an NCAA B-Cut, CC record and program-record time of 1:47.16 before finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 1:47.96. He also took sixth in the 200 IM (1:51.48) for the third-best time in program history. He also placed 12th in the 200 free (1:41.40) with another program all-time top-10 time.

Cami Wilson, Jr., Swarthmore

Wilson broke his second school and conference record of the season at the Franklin and Marshall Winter Invitational. The junior swam a program-best 50.75 for a runner-up finish in the 100 IM. The time ranks second in Division III this season and breaks the previous CC record of 50.98 set by Swarthmore's Jeff Tse in 2019. He also placed third in the 100 free, clocking in at a season-best 45.85 which is ranked 42nd in the nation. In addition, Wilson helped the Garnet's 400 freestyle relay record the lone Swarthmore victory of the weekend, posting the fourth-best time in program history (3:02.49) which is currently 12th in Division III.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Mia Morreale, Jr., Gettysburg

Morreale helped lead the Bullets to a third-place finish at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Chicago over the weekend. She posted a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke on Sunday with a program-record time of 2:04.76, knocking seven seconds off her best time going into the weekend. She was also sixth in the 100 back (57.67) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:07.12). Morreale was also part of the 200 free relay that opened Friday night with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:34.36 to finish third with the No. 3 time in program history. She also led off the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay, which both finished sixth. Morreale's 200 backstroke time ranks ninth on the all-time CC list.

WRESTLING

Athlete of the Week
Reid Garrison, Sr., 285, Merchant Marine
Broadway, Va. | Broadway
Garrison repeated as CC Wrestler of the Week after going 3-0 and riding his winning streak up to six straight bouts en route to a first-place finish in the heavyweight bracket at the 2024 New York State Championships this past weekend up at Oneonta. The senior earned a first-period pin in his first match-up of the day, then followed it up with an 8-1 decision against a Division I wrestler from Hofstra. In the first-place match, he produced a 19-3 tech fall over regionally-ranked #3 Nick Franco of SUNY Brockport.
