Athletes of the Week: March 3-9

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference spring sports are nearly now in full swing with a number of conference teams competing on spring break trips this week. Weekly honors were distributed in baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's tennis. 

Clay Almgren and Drew Tyson of Swarthmore men's lacrosse lead this week's group of honorees with their second weekly awards of the young season for the unbeaten Garnet.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week
Jack Pistner, Sr., 1B, Gettysburg 
Ellicott City, Md. | Centennial 
Pistner led the Bullets to a 3-0 week, hitting .583 on the week. He went 7-for-12 from the plate with three triples and a home run. He also scored five runs and drove in 12. Against Wilson on Tuesday, he tied the program record for RBIs in a single game with eight.

Pitcher of the Week
Alex Wilkie-Viscio, Jr., RHP, Gettysburg
Plymouth Meeting, Pa. | Plymouth Whitemarsh
Wilkie-Viscio recorded his first collegiate complete-game shutout on Saturday in a 7-0 win over Waynesburg. He fanned seven and did not walk any, scattering four hits across his nine innings of work. All four hits that he allowed were singles, limiting Waynesburg to a team batting average of just .129.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week
Samantha Mallen, Sr., SS, Ursinus
Belle Mead, N.J. | Montgomery
Mallen recorded three multi-hit contests in the Bears first four games down in Florida this weekend, helping lead the team to a 4-0 record. She hit a combined 7-of-14 (.500) in four games with five runs scored and went a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Mallen scored the game-winning run for Ursinus in their 5-4 win over Penn State Berks on Saturday. 

Pitcher of the Week
Lauren Lamme, Fr., LHP, Haverford
Albany, N.Y. | Guilderland
Lamme continued her impressive rookie campaign with another shutout victory for the Fords this past Tuesday against Widener. The Albany, N.Y. native tossed five scoreless innings of three-hit ball, while striking out five and walking none. The second victory of the early season for Lamme has improved Haverford's record to 4-0, as they head to California for Spring Break. Lamme currently leads the Centennial with a 0.00 E.R.A, and sits second in the conference in wins with two.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Clay Almgren, Jr., A/M, Swarthmore 
Woodinville, Wash. | Eastside Catholic 
Almgren tallied nine points in a 2-0 week for the undefeated Garnet. The junior led the team with four points on a goal and three assists against Stockton to open the week. He then notched two goals and three assists against Kenyon, who was receiving votes in the most recent USILA national rankings. Almgren currently leads the Centennial Conference with 35 points and 20 assists.

Defensive Player of the Week
Drew Tyson, Jr., GK, Swarthmore 
Santa Ana, Calif. | Foothill 
Tyson matched a career-high 18 saves against Kenyon to headline a 2-0 week for the unbeaten Garnet. He also made three saves with two goals allowed in 30-minutes of action against Stockton. The junior tallied 21 saves on the week, while allowing 11 goals with a goals against average of 7.33 and save percentage of 65.6% throughout his 90 minutes on the field.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Grace Battle, Fr., M, Gettysburg
Lynchburg, Va. | Virginia Episcopal School 
Battle led the Bullets to a 12-11 overtime win over No. 4 Salisbury on Saturday. She established a career high with five goals, including scoring four of Gettysburg's final five tallies. She also recorded the overtime game-winner.

Defensive Player of the Week
Sara Digiovanni, Jr., GK, Franklin & Marshall 
Westport, Conn. | Staples 
Digiovanni led the Diplomats' defense to a pair of impressive performances in a 2-0 week. The junior goalkeeper totaled 17 saves in wins over Messiah and Catholic, surrendering just six goals in 90 minutes of action for a 4.0 goals against average. Digiovanni registered a save percentage of 73.9% in the two wins.

MEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Soren Rudin-Aulenbach, So., Franklin & Marshall 
New York City, N.Y. | The Beacon School 
Rudin-Aulenbach won both his singles and doubles matches on Sunday to help No. 38 F&M hold off No. 39 Skidmore, 4-3. Paired with Luke Brodsky, Rudin-Aulenbach won the middle doubles match, 6-3, for their second win as a duo this season. Rudin-Aulenbach then overpowered his opponent in the No. 5 match, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, to claim his third singles' win this year.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Sophie Fenster, Jr., Bryn Mawr 
Riviera Beach, Fla. | Oxbridge Academy 
Fenster won all four of her matches over the weekend as the Owls opened their spring campaign with a pair of matches. In a 4-3 win over Goucher on Friday, Fenster secured a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles with partner Fernanda Hurtado Mariscal and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. The junior captain doubled down again on Saturday with convincing No. 1 doubles (6-3) and No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-4) wins against Virginia Wesleyan.
