GREENSBORO, N.C. - Swarthmore's Genine Collins became just the sixth swimmer in Centennial history to earn a top-three placing at the NCAA Championships to headline day one performances at the national meet on Wednesday night. Collins, Quinn Weygandt and the 400 medley relay team each secured All-America honors on day one.
Collins grabbed first team All-America status with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching in 22.79 to break her own conference record that she set just a few weeks ago at the Centennial Conference Championship. The top-three finish for Collins was the fourth in CC history at the NCAA meet and the eighth time in conference history that a swimmer registered a bronze medal or better.
Collins also earned second team honors later in the evening as part of the 400 medley relay along with Erin Szuromi, Sophie Rotival and Elle Anthony. The quartet placed 15th with a time of 3:46.52.
Weygandt earned second team All-America honors with a 13th-place mark in the 200 IM at 2:04.34. It marked the fourth All-America award of Weygandt's career, and the first in the 200 IM. Anthony earned her seventh, while Rotival captured her sixth and Szuromi collected her fourth. Rotival, Szuromi and Anthony have been second-team winners on the 400 medley relay for three-straight seasons.
