Athletes of the Week: Sept. 25 - Oct. 1

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Sept. 25 - Oct. 1 in cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball. A trio of repeat winners lead this week's honorees - Emmanuel Leblond and Sara Stephenson of Johns Hopkins cross country and Chelsea O'Leary of Gettysburg volleyball.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Leblond, So., Johns Hopkins
Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View
Leblond crossed the finish line in 51st with a time of 24:43.7 in last Saturday's Paul Short Invitational 8K Gold Race. In a field of just under 400 runners, the sophomore passed 11 competitors in the final 1.7 kilometers to finish three-tenths away from a top-50 overall finish, and was the seventh-place finisher among DIII competitors.

Weston, Mass. | The Rivers School 
In a field of 393 runners at last Saturday's Paul Short Invitational, Stephenson finished 55th — second among DIII competitors — in the 6K Gold Race with a time of 21:21.8.

FIELD HOCKEY

Offensive Player of the Week
Emily Amsden, Jr., F, Johns Hopkins

Perkasie, Pa. | Pennridge
Amsden totaled three goals in a 2-0 week for the Blue Jays. She scored a penalty stroke goal in JHU's 2-0 win at Gettysburg Wednesday afternoon. She followed that with her first career multi-goal game in the 7-1 win over Muhlenberg. Amsden scored the game's first goal just 51 seconds in and added a second goal early in the third quarter. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Kat Thistlewaite, So., D, Franklin & Marshall
New Hope, Pa. | New Hope-Solebury  
Thistelwaite helped lead the F&M defense to a pair of shutout wins in conference play last week over Dickinson and No. 16 Bryn Mawr. The reigning CC Rookie of the Year was part of a defensive line that allowed just nine total shots and three on goal between the two contests.

Offensive Player of the Week
Griffin Meyer, Gr., F, Johns Hopkins
Cleveland Heights, Ohio | University School
Meyer led the Blue Jays to a pair of wins last week, scoring three goals and assisting on a fourth. He scored the game's only goal in Hopkins' 1-0 win at McDaniel Wednesday afternoon. Meyer than totaled two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win over Swarthmore. He scored the first two goals of the game, including the game-winner, and then assisted on the Blue Jays' third goal. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Chris Comber, Sr., D, Washington College 
Chester Springs, Pa. | Downingtown East
Comber helped the Shoremen defense surrender just one goal in a 2-0 week with Centennial Conference victories over Swarthmore and Ursinus. He also added a goal on the offensive end. On Saturday, he scored the insurance goal to put the Shoremen ahead 2-0 in the 56th minute as he headed in a free kick and helped the team tally its fourth shutout of the season and third in the past four games.

Offensive Player of the Week

Alison Francis, Sr., F, Franklin & Marshall
Dallas, Pa. | Dallas
Francis tallied two assists to help the Diplomats to a pair of ties last week. Francis recorded both of her assists in the 2-2 tie against Penn State-Harrisburg, including making a pass in the 86th minute to set up the game-tying goal. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Maddie Nau, Sr., GK, Ursinus
MIddletown, Del. | Appoquinimink
Nau led the Bears defensive to two shutouts last week. The senior net-minder earned the victory in goal on Wednesday as Ursinus blanked Eastern 5-0 and followed up with nine saves and a shutout over Washington College on Saturday. She currently leads the conference with 66 saves and 6.60 saves per contest, while ranking third in the CC in shutouts (4) and save percentage (.868).

Offensive Player of the Week

Kylie Ulrich, Sr., OH, Gettysburg
Lancaster, Pa. | Hempfield 
Ulrich led the Bullets to a 2-0 week, averaging 4.43 kills per set with a .348 hitting percentage over her the seven-set week. She totaled 31 kills, including 17 in a 3-0 win over Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday before adding 14 in a 3-1 conference-opening win at Muhlenberg. She also contributed seven blocks on the week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Chelsea O'Leary, Sr., Libero, Gettysburg
Mechanicsburg, Pa. | Cumberland Valley
O'Leary averaged 6.14 digs per set in a 2-0 week for the Bullets. After 16 digs in a 3-0 win over Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday, she put up a season-high 27 in a 3-1 win at Muhlenberg in the conference opener on Friday night.
