Athletes of the Week: Jan. 1-7

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The new year is here and Centennial Conference teams have begun the 2024 portion of their schedules in men's and women's basketball and wrestling. Johns Hopkins' Greta Miller headlines this week's honorees as a repeat winner in women's basketball.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week

John Windley, Jr., G, Johns Hopkins
Brentwood, Tenn. | Brentwood 
Windley led Johns Hopkins to a 2-0 week after a four-week break for the holidays. He averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 57.1% from the field and 55% from three-point range. Windley scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to go with two assists and one steal in a 72-53 win over Rochester. He then scored 13 points, pulled a game-high eight rebounds and handed out two assists in a 91-58 win over Ursinus Saturday afternoon.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Player of the Week
Greta Miller, Jr., F, Johns Hopkins 
Park Ridge, Ill. | Maine South
Miller had the best game of her career in Hopkins' lone 67-58 win over Ursinus this week. The junior totaled 25 points, 17 rebounds and five assists — all of which were career-highs — while adding two steals and one block in the victory. Miller is the first Blue Jay in at least the last 25 years to have a 25/15/5 outing and is now averaging 12.3 points and a team-best 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists on the season.

WRESTLING

Athlete of the Week

Sean Cowan, Fr., 174, Ursinus 
Egg Harbor City, N.J. | Absegami
Cowan went 4-0 to Ursinus to a 3-1 team mark at the Manganaro Duals on Saturday. He improved his season record to 22-6 with each of his four victories coming via bonus points. In his opening match against Messiah, Cowan won by pinfall over Messiah's Austin Brass (Ranked eighth in Southeast Region) to bring the Bears within two points as Ursinus won the final five bouts en route to a 26-16 victory. Against York, Cowan earned an 8-0 major decision over Jared Townsend to tie the match at 16-16, which Ursinus later won 29-16. During the Bears dual-meet against Shippensburg, he earned the quickest fall of the meet with a 36-second fall over Liam Bostrom. In his final match, Cowan recorded a 17-2 technical fall over Trinity's Adam Frost, who is ranked fourth in the Northeast Region.
