Athletes of the Week: March 18-24

LANCASTER, Pa. -- This week marks the first full slate of awards for Centennial Conference spring sports in 2024 with honors being distributed in baseball, softball, lacrosse, tennis and outdoor track & field, and golf honors set to be awarded later today. Award winners for all eight sports received honors for the first time this season.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Emmanuel Ajewole, Sr., OF/DH, Gettysburg
Floral Park, N.Y. | Stony Brook School 
Ajewole was a key part of a 4-0 week for the Bullets. He went 7-for-9 from the plate for a .778 batting average while driving in seven runs and scoring five times. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch three times for a .750 on-base percentage. With one double, he posted a 1.639 OPS on the week. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen-base attempts.

Pitcher of the Week
Peter Mullen, So., LHP, Franklin & Marshall 
Ridgewood, N.J. | Ridgewood 
Mullen had a superb start in the Diplomats' 12-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark Friday afternoon, striking out 14 while allowing just one hit and no earned runs in six innings for his second victory of the season. With the 14 strikeouts, the sophomore tied the program single-game record.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week

Olivia McClammy, Jr., Util, Swarthmore 
Riverside, Conn. | Greenwich 
McClammy went .615 (8-for-13) at the plate with a .706 on-base-percentage in a 3-1 week for the Garnet. The junior totaled four RBIs, four runs scored, three walks and two doubles. McClammy reached base five times against Widener with three hits and two walks, while also recording her 100th career hit. She then put together a two-hit, three RBI performance against Penn State Brandywine, later in the week. 

Pitcher of the Week
Stephanie Wichman, Jr., P/1B, Ursinus 
Glendale, Calif. | Crescenta Valley 
Wichman tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Ursinus to a 5-0 victory in game two to complete a sweep against Elizabethtown on Thursday afternoon. Wichman allowed just four hits while striking out four and walking one on just 70 pitches. It was the first complete game shutout of her career.

Offensive Player of the Week
Reid Tietjen, So., A, Haverford 
Mountain Lakes, N.J. | Mountain Lakes 
Teitjen helped the Fords to a 13-12 double-overtime upset victory over Franklin & Marshall, a team receiving votes in the latest USILA national rankings, in the conference opener for both teams on Saturday. The sophomore produced four goals and an assist in the win while also adding four ground balls and one caused turnover. The Fords downed the Diplomats for the first time since 2013. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Scarborough, Sr., GK, Dickinson
Owings Mills, Md. | McDonogh
Scarborough backstopped the Red Devils to an 11-6 victory over Muhlenberg in the CC opener with 14 saves and a 70% save percentage. The senior also contributed to the offensive output as he took advantage of the Mules in the "10-man ride", hitting the back of the net from the defensive side of midfield twice on two shots. Scarborough also added five ground balls in the win. He has played every minute so far this season between the pipes for the seventh-ranked Red Devils, posting a record of 7-1 with a 9.45 goals against average and a 53.9 save percentage.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Julia Daly, So., A, Gettysburg
McLean, Va. | Langley 
Daly led the Bullets to a 2-0 week with an 18-12 win at No. 14 York on Wednesday and 18-7 conference-opening victory over previously undefeated Swarthmore. Daly recorded eight goals and two assists on the week to go with four caused turnovers and a ground ball. The sophomore netted three goals and added an assist at York before tallying a season-best five goals and one assist against Swarthmore.

Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Macatee, Jr., D, Gettysburg
Street, Md. | North Harford 
Macatee led the Bullets to a 2-0 week with wins at York and in the conference opener against Swarthmore. At No. 14 York on Wednesday, she pulled down a career-high 13 draw controls, which was one off the program record, and added a ground ball and caused turnover. Against Swarthmore on Saturday, she recorded four more draw controls to go with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. She finished the week with team highs of 17 draw controls and six ground balls to go with three caused turnovers.

Athlete of the Week
Marco Azar, Jr., Johns Hopkins 
Mtayleb, Lebanon | College Louise-Wegmann
Azar went 3-0 in doubles and 2-1 in singles for the Blue Jays in California. He and Daniel Ardila paired for an 8-4 win at number one doubles against fifth-ranked Tufts. His only loss of the week (7-5, 6-2) at sixth singles versus the Jumbos. He and Ardila won 8-6 at number one doubles over the 20th-ranked pair from Caltech. Azar then won 6-1, 7-6 (3) at six singles against the 25th-ranked Beavers. He and Ardila closed out the week with an 8-5 win at number doubles against George Fox. Azar won 6-1, 6-3 at number five singles as the Blue Jays beat the 33rd-ranked Bruins.

WOMEN'S TENNIS 

Athlete of the Week
Sophia Kim, Fr., Johns Hopkins 
Hinsdale, Ill. | Hinsdale Central 
Kim went 2-0 at number one doubles and 1-1 at number three singles in a 1-1 week for the Blue Jays. She paired with Jay Xiao to win 8-7 (5) in doubles versus No. 20 Tufts. She then won 6-3, 6-3 in singles as the Blue Jays beat the 20th-ranked Jumbos, 7-2. Kim and Xiao then beat Emory's fifth-ranked doubles pair, 8-3, at number one. Kim dropped a three-setter at number three singles to the 31st-ranked singles player in a 7-2 loss to the seventh-ranked Eagles.

Track Athlete of the Week
Tyler Trout, Fr., Gettysburg
Chester Springs, Pa. | Owen J. Roberts
Trout led the Bullets at the Little 3 Meet hosted by Franklin & Marshall with wins in both hurdles. He won the 110 hurdles with a Centennial Conference-qualifying time of 17.18 seconds and then also hit the qualifier with a win in the 400 hurdles at 1:00.65.

Field Athlete of the Week
Will Bramley, Jr., Franklin & Marshall 
Apalachian, N.Y. | Vestal 
Bramley recorded the best hammer throw in the Centennial Conference and the 16th-best in the nation with a mark of 49.25 meter during the Little Three Championship. That throw helped the Diplomats edge Dickinson by a single point in the rivalry meet which also featured Gettysburg.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Sara Penuela, Sr., Dickinson
Summit, N.J. | Summit
Penuela won the 100 and 200 meters and also contributed to the winning 4x400 relay for Dickinson at the Little 3 Meet. Penuela's 100 and 200 times rank atop the Centennial this spring, with her 100 time also ranking 43rd nationally. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Lydia Morris-Kliment, Fr., Swarthmore 
Needham, Mass. | Winsor School 
Morris-Kliment placed fifth overall in the discus throw at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. The first-year recorded a best mark of 41.49m in her collegiate outdoor debut, a mark that ranks seventh all-time in Centennial history. Morris leads the conference in the event and ranks fifth overall in the nation.
