Athletes of the Week: Apr. 1-7

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Six repeat honorees headline this week's Centennial Conference athletes of the week as the spring campaign enters April and conference play begins to heat up. 

CC athletes earning honors for at least the second time this spring included Mike Rabayda of Haverford baseball, Drew Tyson of Swarthmore men's lacrosse, Lauren Pittman of Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse, Michael Melnikov of Swarthmore men's tennis, Sophia Kim of Johns Hopkins women's tennis, and Rainah Dunham of Ursinus women's track & field.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week

Dillon Souvignier, Jr. 1B, Johns Hopkins 
Boulder, Colo. | Fairview
Souvignier was a force at the plate in a 3-0 week for Johns Hopkins, slashing .455/.500/1.182 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs. The junior opened his week with a career day against Washington College, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles, a homer and a career-best six RBIs in an 8-6 win over the Shoremen. Souvignier hit his second home run in as many games in a game one win over Ursinus before hitting a walkoff single in a 5-4 game two victory to complete the regular season sweep of the Bears.

Pitcher of the Week
Mike Rabayda, Sr., RHP, Haverford 
Richboro, Pa. | Council Rock South
Rabayda secured Centennial weekly honors for the third time this spring after scattering just three hits in six innings while striking out 12 and walking three in a win against Dickinson. The 12-strikeout performance preserved Rabayda's lead as the CC strikeout leader with 55 on the year.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week

Giovanna Komst, Sr., OF, Gettysburg
Londonderry, N.H. | Londonderry
Komst went 4-for-6 in the Bullets' doubleheader sweep of Haverford on Saturday. She had two extra-base hits, including the go-ahead home run in the seventh inning of game one. Komst also scored three runs and walked once, posting a 2.047 OPS on the day.

Pitcher of the Week
Megan Hughes, Sr., RHP, Gettysburg
Woodstock, Md. | Marriotts Ridge
Hughes threw a complete-game three-hitter to complete the Gettysburg sweep at Haverford on Saturday. She struck out four and did not walk a batter in 5.0 innings of work, holding the Fords to a .150 batting average.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Clay Almgren, So., A, Swarthmore
Woodinville, Wash. | Eastside Catholic 
Almgren totaled a game-high five points in a victory over No. 9 Gettysburg on Saturday. The sophomore scored two goals, including what would prove to be the game-winner score with 10:49 left in the fourth, along with three assists to help lead the Garnet past the nationally-ranked Bullets. Almgren matched a career-best three assists for the third time this season. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Drew Tyson, So., GK, Swarthmore 
Santa Ana, Calif. | Foothill 
Tyson repeated as CC Defensive Player of the Week after making 15 saves and allowing just nine goals in a crucial 13-9 win over No. 9 Gettysburg on Saturday. The sophomore posted a .625 save percentage for the game and recorded 15 or more saves for the fifth-straight game. Tyson currently ranks seventh in the nation in save percentage (.634).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Lauren Pittman, So., A, Franklin & Marshall
Sanford, Fla. | Lake Highland Prep. 
A week after earning CC Defensive Player of the Week honors, Pittman was this time honored for her exploits on the offensive side with 14 points in a 3-0 week for the Diplomats. Pittman notched five points during both of the Diplomats' Centennial victories against McDaniel (1g, 4a) and Ursinus (4g, 1a). She then matched her high for the week with four goals against No. 4 Salisbury in the top-five national showdown where she also set a school record with 14 draw controls against the Sea Gulls. In addition to her offensive production, Pittman finished the week with 19 draw controls, four ground balls, and one caused turnover.

Defensive Player of the Week
Melissa Pierpont, Jr., D, Muhlenberg
Ramsey, N.J. | Immaculate Heart Academy 
Pierpont caused three turnovers and picked up a career-high seven ground balls to lead the Muhlenberg defense in an important 11-8 win at Washington College. The Mules had not won in Chestertown since 2010, and they hadn't held Washington to single digits in goals since 2005. The defense allowed only one goal in the fourth quarter and only one shot in the final seven minutes to preserve the lead.

Athlete of the Week
Michael Melnikov, So., Swarthmore 
Karlsruhe, Germany 
Melnikov earned a pair of victories over No. 17 Johns Hopkins to help capture the program's first road victory against the Blue Jays since 1985. The sophomore won 8-5 in top doubles and then defeated 26th-ranked Allen Gong in straight sets at the No. 1 singles spot, 7-6(2), 7-5.

WOMEN'S TENNIS 

Athlete of the Week
Sophia Kim, Fr., Johns Hopkins 
Hinsdale, Ill. | Hinsdale Central 
Kim helped Johns Hopkins to an 8-1 win over No. 23 Swarthmore Saturday afternoon. She paired with Jay Xiao for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and later clinched the victory for the Blue Jays with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

MEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Devon Greaves, Sr., Ursinus 
Philadelphia, Pa. | Malvern Prep
Greaves posted the top time in the conference in the 400-meter hurdles at the Ursinus Track & Field Festival over the weekend. The senior crossed the line in a season-best 56.69, which is nearly a second faster than the next-closest time in the conference. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Dylan DeMagistris, Sr., Muhlenberg
Emerson, N.J. | Emerson
DeMagistris won the hammer throw at the Muhlenberg Invitational with a school-record mark of 53.74 meters (176-4). He won the event, the first time the hammer was ever contested on the Muhlenberg campus, by nearly 18 feet and improved on his No. 2 all-time Centennial Conference best. DeMagistris also placed second in the discus with a regional-qualifying mark.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Darya Mikusova, Sr., Dickinson
Niantic, Conn. | East Lyme 
Mikusova won the 100 and 400 hurdles at the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday. Her 400 hurdle time of 1:01.81 ranks second in the nation this spring and is narrowly behind her top career mark of 1:01.41 which ranks second all-time in Centennial history. Mikusova won the 100 hurdles at 15.66. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Rainah Dunham, Sr., Ursinus 
Phoenixville, Pa. | Methacton 
Dunham repeated as Field Athlete of the Week after registering a school record and the second-best triple jump in Centennial history at the Ursinus Track & Field Festival. Dunham secured a mark of 11.87 meters, which won the event and edged the previous school record of 11.84 meters. That mark also ranks ninth in the Division III this season. Dunham has broken both long and triple jump Ursinus records between the indoor and outdoor seasons.
