Athletes of the Week: Oct. 13-19

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Centennial Conference weekly awards have been announced for the week of Oct. 13-19 in cross country field hockey, soccer and volleyball. 

This week marks the penultimate cross country weekly awards of the fall 2025 campaign, with only a handful of teams set to compete at the Haverford Invitational next weekend prior to the CC Championship at Gettysburg on Saturday, Nov. 1. 

Emmanuel Leblond of Johns Hopkins men's cross country leads this week's group of honorees with his third weekly award of the year. Earning their second accolade of the season were Carter Brotherton of Johns Hopkins women's cross country and Taylor Morrow of Dickinson field hockey.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Athlete of the Week
Emmanuel Leblond, Sr., Johns Hopkins 
Mountain View, Calif. | Mountain View
Leblond secured weekly honors for the third time this fall after delivering another standout performance at the Connecticut College Invitational, capturing the individual title in a field of 269 runners. It marked his fifth consecutive regular-season race as the top Division III finisher. In a stacked 34-team Blue Race at Connecticut College, the Blue Jays claimed the team title with 96 points, edging out 11 nationally-ranked opponents — including four top-10 teams: No. 4 NYU, No. 7 SUNY Geneseo, No. 8 Williams and No. 9 Tufts. Leblond crossed the line first, finishing more than 11 seconds ahead of runner-up Ryan Hagan of SUNY Geneseo. In the process, he broke the meet record previously held by Williams’ Elias Lindgren, clocking in at 23:41.94—one second faster than the previous mark.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Athlete of the Week
Carter Brotherton, So., Johns Hopkins 
Leonardtown, Md. | Great Mills 
Brotherton repeated as Athlete of the Week following a fourth-place showing in a field of 271 runners at the Connecticut College Invitational. In a highly-competitive 33-team Blue Race at Connecticut College that featured 16 nationally-ranked teams, the Blue Jays claimed third with 113 points, finishing behind only the meet champion, second-ranked Williams (73 pts) and fifth-ranked MIT (97 pts). Brotherton crossed the line in 20:57.8, finishing just over three seconds ahead of the fifth-place finisher. Prior to this year, only five runners in the history of the women’s 6K at this meet had broken the 21-minute barrier—but the top four accomplished the feat.

FIELD HOCKEY

Offensive Player of the Week
Megan Chang, Sr., F, Johns Hopkins 

Houston, Texas | St. John's School 
Chang led Johns Hopkins to a 2-0 week with four goals, including two game-winners. She scored the game's first goal and notched her first career hat trick before the game was 37 minutes old on Wednesday in the win over McDaniel. On Friday, she got a turnover and scored a transition goal to give Hopkins the lead at No. 15 Williams. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Morrow, Sr., GK, Dickinson
Marlboro, N.J. | Saint John Vianney 
Morrow posted two conference road wins last week over Gettysburg and No. 19 Haverford. In Wednesday's 3-1 win at Gettysburg she notched five saves, including four in the second half.  In a top-20 showdown at Haverford on Saturday she added three stops with two of them coming in the fourth quarter to help Dickinson close out the 1-0 victory. For the week, Morrow allowed just one goal and notched an .889 save percentage in 120 minutes of action.

MEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week
Charles Sharp, Fr., F, Haverford 
Denver, Colo. | Regis Jesuit 
Sharp put together a five-point week to help lead the Fords to a 2-0 record. In Wednesday’s dominant 6-0 win over Farmingdale State, the first-year standout tallied two goals, including the eventual game-winner. Sharp followed up that performance on Saturday by assisting on the lone goal of the match, scored by Aiden Lee, in a 1-0 victory over McDaniel. The Denver, Colo. native’s strong play helped Haverford tie the longest unbeaten streak in program history at 16 consecutive matches.

Defensive Player of the Week

Evanston, Ill. | North Shore Country Day School 
Potter recorded seven saves as the ninth-ranked Red Devils toppled the host Swarthmore College 3-0 on Saturday night on the road to maintain their grip at the top of the Centennial Conference standings.

Offensive Player of the Week

Charlotte Carleton, Jr., F, Swarthmore 
Bloomfield Hills, Mich. | Bloomfield Hills 
Carleton recorded a goal and an assist to lead the 12th-ranked Garnet to a key 3-1 victory over Dickinson in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference standings. She assisted on Ava Gizzie's game-winning goal in the 51st minute before later scoring an insurance tally in the 61st minute. Carleton's effort helped Swarthmore remain unbeaten in conference play while dealing the Red Devils their first Centennial loss.

Defensive Player of the Week
Dani Klingener, Sr., GK, Muhlenberg
Mountain Lakes, N.J. | Morris Knolls 
Klingener compiled a 0.50 goals-against average and .933 save percentage as Muhlenberg went 1-0-1 in a pair of Centennial Conference games despite getting outshot by double-digit margins in both contests. Klingener stopped 10 shots - the most by a Mule goalie in a shutout win since 2014 - in a 1-0 win against Haverford and kept the clean sheet despite facing 13 shots in the second half. She added four saves in a 1-1 tie against regionally ranked Washington College. The two results gave the Mules seven points in the CC standings, their most since 2019.

VOLLEYBALL

Offensive Player of the Week

Isabel Adam, So., OH, Swarthmore 
Mill Valley, Calif. | Marin Catholic 
Adam led the Garnet with 37 kills (4.11 per set) and was second with 33 digs (3.67 per set) in a 1-1 week. She also was second with four service aces to finish with a team-high 41.5 points (4.61 per set), accounting for 32% of Swarthmore's points. Adam registered 21 kills, 18 digs, four aces, one assist, and one block in a tough five-set loss at eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins. It was her second 20-kill performance of the season. The sophomore then closed the week with 16 kills, 15 digs, and two assists in a 3-1 victory at Dickinson.

Defensive Player of the Week
Nala Shearer, So., Libero, Gettysburg
Lexington, Va. | Rockbridge County 
Shearer led the Bullets to a 1-1 week, averaging 5.50 digs per set. In a 3-0 win over Haverford on Saturday, she recorded a career-high 32 digs and was the first Gettysburg player to register 30 or more digs in a three-set match in 20 years. She also had 12 digs in a 3-2 loss at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. She added three aces and four assists on the week.
