Athletes of the Week: March 17-23

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Spring seasons are now in full swing with Centennial Conference play opening up last week in lacrosse, conference play set to begin in baseball, softball and tennis this weekend and the outdoor track & field season now underway for several CC squads. 

Harry Genth of Haverford baseball repeated as Player of the Week to lead this week's honorees while Charlie Johnson of Gettysburg men's lacrosse also earned his second weekly award of the year.

BASEBALL

Player of the Week
Harry Genth, Sr., INF, Haverford 
Baltimore, Md. | Boys' Latin School of Maryland 
Genth repeated as Player of the Week after helping the Fords to a 3-1 week that included a victory over eighth-ranked Salisbury on Saturday. The middle infielder posted a .438 batting average with a .526 on-base percentage and 1.250 slugging percentage, tallying seven hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs, one double, one walk, three stolen bases, and four home runs in 16 at-bats. In a 17-11 victory over Eastern on Tuesday, Genth crushed two three-run homers, recording a game-high six RBIs. In the following game against Immaculata on Thursday, Genth belted another three-run shot in a commanding 17-3 rout over the Mighty Macs. Then, after collecting two hits in a 6-5 win over No. 8 Salisbury in game one of a doubleheader, the senior launched his fourth home run of the week—a solo shot against the Sea Gulls.

Pitcher of the Week
Colin Mackenzie, So., RHP, Franklin & Marshall 
Littleton, Colo. | Mullen 
Mackenzie displayed two dominant performances out of the bullpen this week, helping F&M down Lebanon Valley and Moravian with 7.0 innings of shutout relief. In the win over LVC, Mackenzie struck out one and allowed just three hits in three innings on the mound. Mackenzie then earned his second win of the season against Moravian, striking out four and allowing two hits in four innings of relief. Mackenzie currently has a 0.73 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 12.1 innings this season.

SOFTBALL

Player of the Week
Kaya Mahy, Sr., 2B, Muhlenberg
Springfield, N.J. | Jonathan Dayton
Mahy went 6-for-7 with six runs scored in the Mules' doubleheader sweep at King's. She had three hits, including a double, and three runs scored in each game, adding her fifth home run of the season in the opener. Muhlenberg scored in eight innings in the two games, and Mahy was involved in the rally in six of them. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.571 and her on-base percentage was .875.

Pitcher of the Week
Lilly Goldberg, Fr., RHP, Swarthmore 
Pittsford, N.Y. | Pittsford Mendon
Goldberg tossed 11 scoreless innings and won both of her starts against Eastern and Immaculata. The first-year allowed eight hits and one walk, while striking out 12 batters. Goldberg opened the week with a complete-game shutout at Eastern, and then tossed four innings of one-hit ball against Immaculata.

MEN'S LACROSSE

Offensive Player of the Week
Charlie Johnson, So., A, Gettysburg 
Wilton, Conn. | Wilton 
Johnson led the eighth-ranked Bullets to a 12-11 win over No. 12 Swarthmore in the conference opener under the lights on Saturday night. Johnson scored six goals, including back-to-back goals in an eight-second span early in the fourth quarter that gave Gettysburg the lead for good. He also picked up four ground balls.

Defensive Player of the Week
Ronan West, So., LSM, Haverford 
Mamaroneck, N.Y. | Rye Neck
West put on another defensive showcase in Haverford's 19-7 victory over McDaniel, improving the Fords record to 8-1, the best start to a season in school history. West caused a season-high five turnovers to go along with a season-high eight ground balls, limiting the Green Terror to just seven goals on the night. The Mamaroneck, N.Y. product currently is third in the Centennial with 14 caused turnovers and fifth in ground balls with 40.

Offensive Player of the Week
Lauren Pittman, Jr., A, Franklin & Marshall 
Sanford, Fla. | Lake Highland Prep 
Pittman scored 11 goals and dished out four assists during a 3-0 win for the Diplomats that included wins against No. 7 William Smith and No. 6 Salisbury. Pittman recorded her 200th career point during the team's 13-11 win against Salisbury on Sunday. That came just one day after Pittman had a nine-point outing (5 goals, 4 assists) during F&M's Centennial Conference-opening win at Swarthmore. Pittman scored her 11 goals on just 17 shots. The junior also had a team-best 10 draw controls over those three games while adding three ground balls during the week. 

Defensive Player of the Week
Sara DiGiovanni, So., GK, Franklin & Marshall 
Westport, Conn. | Staples 
DiGiovanni made 35 saves, stopping 62.5 percent of the shots she faced during a 3-0 win for the Diplomats that included wins against No. 7 William Smith and No. 6 Salisbury. DiGiovanni allowed just 21 goals in total (7.00 GAA) across the three games. After making 11 saves against nationally-ranked William Smith to start the week, the sophomore posted back-to-back 12 save efforts against Swarthmore and Salisbury. DiGiovanni stopped over half the shots she faced during all three contests, saving 85.7 percent of the shots on goal during the Diplomats' Centennial Conference-opening win versus Swarthmore.

Edina, Minn. | The Blake School 
Chen won both of his matches to help the eighth-ranked Garnet defeat Muhlenberg in the conference opener. The rookie teamed with Andres Fente for a 6-1 victory at first doubles. Chen then made quick work of his opponent at first singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. The first-year is 6-2 in singles play this season and 9-8 in doubles competition.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Player of the Week
Katie Yu, Fr., Ursinus
Wilmington, Del. | Tatnall 
Yu helped lead the Bears to a 2-0 week with a 2-0 record at No. 3 singles and a 1-1 mark at No. 2 doubles. In a 4-3 triumph over Drew, Yu notched one of the decisive singles points with a 7-6, 7-6 victory at the No. 3 spot. In a 5-2 win against Marymount, the freshman teamed with Morgan Coupe for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles before earning another straight-set victory at three singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Track Athlete of the Week
Trevor Richwine, Jr., Dickinson 
Newville, Pa. | Big Spring
Richwine posted the second fastest time in Division III in the 800 meters on Sunday afternoon at Biddle Field with a facility record-breaking time of 1:52.82. He also had a hand in winning the 4x400m relay with teammates Darian Crim, Ian Gormley and Jeremy Sallade as they clocked in at 3:23.74 to set another Biddle Field record. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Jack Regentin, Jr., Gettysburg
Gettysburg, Pa. | Biglerville 
Regentin led the Bullets at the Little Three meet at Dickinson to open the outdoor season. He recorded victories in both the discus and shot put while finishing third in the hammer. Regentin won the discus with a toss of 47.36 meters, which ranks third in program history and fourth in the nation for the outdoor season. He won the shot put with a throw of 15.06 meters, which is also third in program history and ranks seventh nationally. His throw of 44.34 meters in the hammer established a new program record. All three marks were conference qualifiers.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Track Athlete of the Week
Lauren Dunnigan, So., Franklin & Marshall 
Waldwick, N.J. |  Immaculate Heart Academy
Coming off of her appearance in the national indoor championships, Dunnigan won the 100 meter hurdles (15.09 seconds) at the Little Three meet on Sunday. She later took bronze in the 400 meter hurdles (1:12.63) while also winning the triple jump (11.03m) to highlight her efforts in the field events. Dunnigan currently holds the fastest time in the conference in both of those hurdle events, and heer 100 hurdle time ranks 13th in Division III. 

Field Athlete of the Week
Annie Leder, Sr., Dickinson 
Washington, D.C. | Mercersburg Academy 
Leder set a new facility record in the long jump at the Little Three meet hosted by Dickinson on Sunday. Her mark of 5.56 meters won the event and ranks 10th in the nation for the young outdoor season. Leder and the Red Devils captured the team title at the event.
